My wife thinks it's weird that I stare at the window during a heavy rainstorm. It would be a lot less weird if she'd just let me in.

Waiter: I'm glad you enjoyed your dinner. How did you find the steak? Me: Super easy. It was right next to the potatoes.

Vim is based on shortcuts. When I discovered that and played around, I felt numb and a little stupid, having not learned the shortcuts much earlier. I realized there was a keystroke to get to any specific position I wanted. It felt liberating, moving my cursor with the precision of a surgeon.

📻 We bought this radio for our kitchen, for the perfect color coordination, and because it has one of the greatest user interfaces of all time!? I mean just look at this

The highest compliment from someone who disagrees with you is not “You were right.” It’s “You made me think.” Good arguments help us recognize complexity where we once saw simplicity. The ultimate purpose of debate is not to produce consensus. It’s to promote critical thinking.

Wow. Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde fearlessly calls out Trump and Vance to their faces. This is heroic. (posting in 3 parts due to Bluesky's 1 minute limit)

An incredible copywriting moment. My friend @steeber.bsky.social knows I love a good packaging redesign, and spotted this unusual label revision. Why are they switching the wording to the version in the second photo? What happened?!? Well. When you're ready for the answer, open the second post…

#rust: When `rustc` Beats Cargo for quick trial code Recently, I needed to try some functionality (of getting user’s home directory) Setting up a throw away project via `cargo new` is certainly possible but seemed overkill. Originally published here : microblog.desipenguin.com/post/rustc-o...

I bought an impressionist painting of some flowers, but when I got back home the cat scratched it. Now I'm trying to sell it as a Clawed Monet.

I asked a guy at the station when the next train was coming. He said, "Have a look online!" I said, "That's a bit dangerous isn't it?"

Consider this #Python code: x = 100 for i in range(10): x = i ** 2 print(x) What is printed? Answer: 81. Wait, isn't x local, inside of the loop? Shouldn't it be 100? Nope — indentation ≠ scope. Inside of a loop, without a function, you're still in the global scope. Questions?

If you have gone thru @lernerpython.com 's `Local Vs Global` module (Just like I did recently) then you would know this already 😀 store.lerner.co.il/view/courses...

"Computers don't do what you want them to do. They do what you tell them to do." Someone said that to me many years ago, and it has stuck in my mind — both as a programmer, and as someone who teaches programming for a living. Indeed, I often use it with my students! Feel free to pass it forward...
