sapience/retention of one's human mind varies a lot among the zoo animals. for the most part, it's very disorienting (being in a new body and all) but victims are fully of their old mind upon being transformed. however, they do tend to start to lose that over time.

if they "accept" their predicament so to speak they'll typically eventually just become fully that animal, mind and all. those who actively hold on to their identity and sense of self will manage to keep it for far longer, or potentially indefinitely

not EVERY SINGLE animal in the park used to be a human. i feel like that would get suspicious quick. the organization does obtain animals from other facilities and- largely- from small sanctuaries and private owners. this is the cover story for the majority of the former humans too.

im very enchanted by the idea of some rich freak being interested in the intersection of "personal exotic pet zoo" and "the most dangerous game" in which they want a menagerie of humans-turned-animals...
