“Roughly $10 million per year per data center. So, if we have five data centers, that would be $50 million, she said. “That’s a lot of money when we think about how to balance our budget.” - Marilyn Balcombe

A 360-megawatt data center is proposed for Dickerson — in MD-06, the district I'm running to represent. Who's the tenant? They won't say. Who's funding it? You're not allowed to know. I spent weeks reading the filings to get to the bottom of what's going on. 🧵

A website that auto plays a video, asks if you want to allow notifications, followed by a pop-up asking if you want to create an account and when you close it the page goes unresponsive. Why can't we make things that suck less? 🤷‍♂️

"I need to house and feed my family" backlash. The know the outcome but they're going to do it anyway.

Wired reports that the FBI and DHS are now monitoring a new class of threats described as “anti-tech violent extremism” resulting from the backlash against AI and data centers. It’s unclear if this is a real threat or a political move by the White House to target opponents of AI.

The tech bros gave us crypto currency that isn’t currency, artificial intelligence that isn’t intelligence, and prediction markets that are inside-trader scams. On the other hand, they have given us gigantic data centers that employ no one and destroy communities. So there’s that.

Quantum Frederick. Atmosphere Data Centers in Dickerson. Two massive data center projects proposed right here in MD-06 — with massive energy demands, massive water demands, and minimal community benefit. I oppose both. This district isn't a server farm.

At 10% they are clearing a whopping $0.88 minus taxes and gas. Two hours of free work and 1.5 hour commute.

Gas is currently $5.09 in my area. Minimum wage in PA is $7.25 You gotta work 45 mins for a gallon of gas to drive to your minimum wage job. How much longer before people just stop showing up because it's unaffordable to do so?

"Too many Democrats are afraid to alienate the tech industry, and the party lacks a clear moral vision capable of countering billionaire hype about ‘innovation’ and fearmongering about competition with China"

Just buy bottled water is going to be the new 'pick yourself up by the bootstraps'. Book it.

‘Irresponsible’: backlash as Utah approves datacenter twice the size of Manhattan. Facility would require more power than entire state uses and suck up vast amount of water in drought-stricken area. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

Ok, this is the most insane one I've heard yet!!

The downstream impact on the local economy is massive. Not only MD federal/contractor jobs, a reduction in federal tax revenue plus a decline in household spending and circulation of the dollar among local business.

NIH. FDA. HHS. USDA. The agencies being hollowed out by DOGE aren't bureaucratic abstractions — they're Maryland jobs, Maryland research, Maryland public health infrastructure. And Congress has largely watched it happen. That ends when MD-06 sends me to DC.
