🌊 Rising ocean temperatures increase the risk of coral bleaching and ecosystem degradation. On International Day Against Climate Change, we recognize the importance of regional collaboration and sustained action to protect the ecosystems and communities that depend on a healthy reef.

The exchange of experiences and regional collaboration continue to open new pathways for conservation. 🌎🌊 Thank you to RedLAC for creating these spaces for connection, learning, and collaboration among environmental funds!

🪸 Coral bleaching is a warning sign for coral reefs. During Coral Bleaching Awareness Month, we want to help you better understand this phenomenon: why it occurs, how it affects corals, and why coral conservation is so important.

🪸 What happens when a coral loses its color? Why does coral bleaching occur, and what does it mean for coral reefs? During Coral Bleaching Awareness Month, we’ll answer these and other questions through our weekly “Did you know…?” series.

The meeting was organized and funded by the Smithsonian Institution’s Marine Geo program, the Pew Charitable Trusts, and the Mesoamerican Reef Fund, with support from German Cooperation, through KfW, as part of the project “Protection of Maritime Resources in Central America III – Phase III.”

🪸 During Coral Bleaching Awareness Month, we invite you to learn more about this phenomenon: what causes it, how it affects coral reefs, and why understanding it is important. Join us each week for our “Did you know…?” series and discover how our actions can contribute to protecting coral reefs.

🪸 This Coral Bleaching Awareness Month, we’re sharing some facts to help you understand more about this topic, why it happens, and why it matters. Follow our weekly "Did You Know?" series and learn more about how we can help protect coral reefs. #ForCoral #CBAM #Bleaching #LifeIsBetterInColor

Sargassum turned into bioplastic. Lionfish turned into jewelry. Corals growing back. 🌊 This is what the first cohort of the Her Ocean Accelerator looks like: 8 women-led businesses, selected from 111 applications across 11 countries, working for one shared reef — the #MesoamericanReef.

Over the coming months, they will strengthen their business models, climate capacities, and growth strategies through mentorship, training, and a regional network behind them. Eight women. Eight businesses. One reef connected by solutions rooted in the region.

Although their loss has slowed, mangroves continue to disappear. On this international day, the message is clear: conserving them means investing in climate resilience and the well-being of coastal communities. 🌿🌊 #Mangroves #Conservation #Oceans #NatureBasedSolutions #Environment

On World #DrowningPrevention Day, we are reminded that protecting our oceans and coasts also means protecting the people who depend on them.  Drowning is preventable. Water safety education, life jackets, CPR training, safer boats, and early warning systems can save lives. @who.int
