We need permanent email addresses for correspondence. I doubt that any of the 3 addresses I currently have will still be linked to me in 10 years. One of them, from my time as a postdoc in Basel, has already been assigned to another person with the same name. 📧 bsky.app/profile/mari...

So... I emailed the corresponding author, Emily Brindal, asking for the raw data (because of course I did) and her email is no longer active? (this paper was published not 5 months ago!) This means that JAMA's data sharing statement here is false...

#AcademicChatter Does anyone know a solution to this?

Maria Meier@mariame.bsky.social

Email addresses change regularly leading to various challenges, e.g. when contacting corresponding authors. 📧 Wouldn’t it be great to have an email address that is verifiably linked to a person in academia but that is persistent over time, like an @orcid.org email? Do we have something like this?

R.i.P. 🪦 laptop. I never meant to drown you. You will be dearly missed.

Insight of the day: a waterproof bike bag keeps water from getting in, but it also keeps water from getting out. If half a liter of water spills inside the bag, the likelihood of it damaging your laptop is … increased. And when was the last time you performed a backup? 👩🏼‍💻

New #preprint 📄 We explored links between type- & timing-specific characteristics of Childhood Maltreatment (CM) and epigenetic aging in formerly out-of-home placed individuals. CM, esp. abuse in late childhood and mid adolescence, was linked to Hannum’s age deceleration in young adulthood.

New preprint! 🎉 I analysed 1660 papers from 4 psychology journals and found materials sharing went from 9% of papers in 2015 to 82% in 2025, and these materials *do* get downloaded — a median of 135 times each. BUT shared code is often hard to run. doi.org/10.31234/osf... Let's walk through it 🧵

Thanks for the support throughout! 🔥

📢 New #NODES study published! An international panel of 50 researchers reached consensus about structuring, labeling, and sharing #psychoneuroendocrinology data 🤝 Next step? Translating community consensus into concrete data format specifications to foster transparency and sustainable data reuse

The satisfaction you get when you ran during the sunny morning because forecast said it’s gonna rain in the afternoon and evening and then it actually turns out to be true is comparable to the joy of finding supportive evidence for a preregistered hypothesis.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, I’m not a biologist. Also, please share your ideas of how to use this expression in everyday academic life. I was thinking of: “God damn, my code ain’t running but I can’t find the nonsense-mutation causing the premature termination!”

Maria Meier@mariame.bsky.social

Once in a while, I read a paper and think “Funny typo”, just to find out it’s an essential biological process. Today’s catch: Nonsense-mediated decay🎣 Nonsense-mutations are mutations that introduce a premature stop codon into mRNA. Named process detects those transcripts and degrades them.

Conference marathon! 🔥 @ispne.bsky.social in Erlangen was a real blast last week, with so many cool discussions on methods and content and a huge motivation burst on my side. I presented the final results of the #NODES Delphi study and brand new findings on how insulin shapes the stress response.

After a day of recalibration (visiting the collection on Walter Moers’ work in Erlangen, a long car ride and a long run), I am now very much looking forward to the next days in Luxemburg where the conference of @dgps.bsky.social takes place.

We started the day with a fully packed room in our symposium on “Standarizing (Open) Science?“ - wonderfully organized by @lspitzer.bsky.social and Maximilian Frank. It is wonderful to see so many great initiatives that aim to make the adoption of open science practices easier 👏

#ISPNE2026 is starting with the first full day in sunny Erlangen today with a keynote by Karin Roelofs ( @epanlab.bsky.social )on the freezing response opening the day after fab poster flash talks Very much looking forward to the next days discussing all things hormones!

🚨 New paper from our group: Across 164 participants, we find that virtual nature is retrospectively perceived as helpful in dealing with an acute stressor, but does not change immediate psychological, autonomic, or hormonal responses to it, suggesting a disconnect in recalled and immediate reactions

Max Steininger@maxsteininger.bsky.social

We ran a registered randomized controlled study with 164 participants to test whether virtual nature before or after an acute stress task affects stress reactivity and subsequent recovery. Participants retrospectively said that nature helped them prepare for and recover from the stressor BUT… (1/4)

The project comprises a mix between experimental stress research 🥼 and ambulatory assessment 🤳 all in combination with biological markers of the stress and the metabolic system. I am very grateful for the support and the encouragement I received from colleagues and friends in the past years. (2/3)

Academia is tough and rejections so often feel like a failure. I received a rejection for this idea after very positive evaluations in a different setting - I am now beyond happy for the trust in this project. 🛤️ (3/3)
