i just added a #buildinpublic section to my newsletter SaaS-HQ.com at the end of each issue, iโ€™ll share: โž key metrics from the previous edition โž a 3-bullet update on what iโ€™m working on the newsletter is all about growing SaaS, so tracking its own growth just makes sense.

We put pricing on our landing page from day one. Smart move or mistake? Early on, we priced at ~$150 to land our first customers. Later, we 10xโ€™d it for a high-value offer. โœ… Qualifies leads โœ… Allows PLG โŒ Scares off leads โŒ Prevents talking Do you publish pricing upfront? #saas #buildinpublic

Weโ€™ve sent 1,037 emails to validate our product, here is what we learned: 1๏ธโƒฃ Open Rates: From 28% โ†’ 48% โ†’ 75% At first, our emails had lame results. By tweaking the subject line, we pushed it to 48%โ€ฆ then 75%. #saas #buildinpublic #growth (1/3)

2๏ธโƒฃ Including a Link in Cold Emailsโ€”Good or Bad? โœ… Filters uninterested people โœ… Gives details to those who click โŒ Fewer direct convos โŒ โ€œMore infoโ€ requests rarely convert Some founders skip links to force replies. I see the value in that. ๐Ÿ“Œ Whatโ€™s your take? Would you add a link or not?

3๏ธโƒฃ Are We Chasing the Wrong Problem? We started with newsletter creators. Now, other industries (nonprofits, sales teams) are showing interest. So now we have a lot of questions... should we: ๐Ÿ‘‰ Stick to newsletters and go deep? ๐Ÿ‘‰ Pivot to a broader enrichment tool? Still figuring it out...

The trick? โ†’ Using a subject line with less than three words that sparks curiosity. But letโ€™s be honestโ€”these numbers can be misleading. Open rates donโ€™t mean people care. So, we only use them for internal comparison: ๐Ÿ”น Is this email doing better than the last one? Thatโ€™s all that matters.

newsletters are still the best marketing channel in 2025 every time I send out my newsletter, I see a 50% open rate. with 1k subs, thatโ€™s 500 people Iโ€™m actively engaging and building relationships. compare that to organic reach: โ€“ Fb: ~2.2% โ€“ Ig: ~4% โ€“ Lin: ~7% also, low effort initiative

next iteration: Doubling down on whatโ€™s working ๐˜ธ๐˜ฆ'๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ญ๐˜ญ ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ ๐˜ท๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฅ๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ โ†’ make a landing page & mvp ๐Ÿ˜… @diselo.xyz โ†’ 10x prices ๐Ÿ’ธ โ†’ target 500 leads in 2 weeks (๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ‘Œcherrypicked) โ†’ talk & deliver value to early customers last sprint of the year! #buildinpublic #indiehackers #saas

zuckโ€™s got a lesson for all founders: see something working in a competitor? Just clone it, and deploy fast: custom feeds โ†’ copied from #bluesky stories โ†’ copied from Snapchat reels โ†’ copied from TikTok threads โ†’ copied from X/Twitter AR filters โ†’ copied from Snapchat #buildinpublic #meta

Blueskyโ€™s growth slowed from 2.6 to 1.4 users/sec. Thatโ€™s still: โ€ข 120K/day โ€ข 846K/week โ€ข 3.7M/month Growth comes in wavesโ€”not a bad thing. Itโ€™s a sign of something bigger brewing. Hereโ€™s why that matters and what Bluesky can do next. ๐Ÿงต #bluesky #bsky #buildinpublic #growth

7/ The best part? The tech to power this already exists. #Atprotocol gives Bluesky a unique edge: โ€ข Custom feeds = tailored user experiences โ€ข Decentralized identities = true ownership โ€ข Open infrastructure = endless possibilities The best algorithms havenโ€™t been invented yet.

6/ Picture this: A feed designed to discover new musicโ€”where artists own their work and algorithms are transparent. Decentralized Spotify? Why not. Or for visual artists: a decentralized Pinterest, with feeds that celebrate creators and their work. Bluesky can empower creators like never before.

5/ So, how can Bluesky unlock its next wave of growth? Itโ€™s simple: double down on the users driving the current wave. Empower them to spread the word. Example: Developers. A program to build on #atprotocol (custom feeds, decentralized identities) could create entirely new valueโ€”and viral loops.

4/ Growth boils down to 2 things: 1๏ธโƒฃ Network effects โ†’ maximize value for the user 2๏ธโƒฃ Word of mouth Iโ€™ve seen this firsthand: I worked on an app with 260K DAUs, 1M daily visitsโ€” all out traffic was from one viral loop: anonymous feedback. Bluesky can do thisโ€”and more.

3/ Blueskyโ€™s growth isnโ€™t about โ€œluck.โ€ Itโ€™s about timing and value. Developers + early adopters + the #atprotocol (custom feeds, decentralized identities, open infrastructure) = the foundation to spark the next wave of users. But is this enough to keep momentum growing? Letโ€™s break it down.

2/ Growth is happening in waves ๐ŸŒŠ ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ท Aug โ€™24 โ†’ X banned in Brazil โ†’ +4M users ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Nov โ€™24 โ†’ US elections โ†’ +8M users These -๐—ฏ๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ธ๐˜€๐˜„๐—ฎ๐—ป- events were impossible to predict. Yet Bluesky keeps winning. Why? Theyโ€™ve been quietly building, ready for moments like these.
