For new followers, hi! I don't really know how to describe myself these days, but I used to work on @steamdb.info and various WoW tools intended to make data more accessible to more people. I'm pro-open data, anti-ad and a big supporter of game archival, with a personal focus on archiving WoW stuff.

I guess we're also just not really doing patch notes anymore. Second PTR build of the patch, by the way. First build was already super light on actual notes too. :(

I get there's probably not a lot of things that aren't Talebound and they don't walk to talk about that, but surely there's some stuff they can mention, in the patch as a whole and this build. I can come up with a few things just looking at the diffs. I miss when notes had the tiniest of changes.

I see Blizzard added a (what seems to be) non-decal version of this model in the new build, they haven't replaced the old model yet, but I'm keeping an eye on you, Blizzard. Don't tell me the initial decor using the decal version was an accident. *stares*

So this is VERY cool. Anroka on the @wowkea.bsky.social Discord noticed that some of the decor pieces added in 12.1.7 are actually decals! These are special kind of models (textures, really) that are projected onto surroundings. Opens up a lot of possibilities. 👀👀👀 housing.wowdb.com/decor/31945/...

And we're back. Until the next vulnerability gets discovered, reported, announced, reverse engineered, exploited before patch and then patched. Which will probably be sooner rather than later.

Both my site (excl. blog) and wowdev.wiki will be down until the PHP patch releases later today. I applied some mitigations earlier and things are behind Cloudflare (which is blocking some stuff too) but it is getting a bit too dicey out there for my liking.

Oh yeah, those PHP exploits are real real bad. Been keeping an eye on it since the patch was announced earlier today but looks like people have already figured it out with a good chance of it already being exploited in the wild. Fun!

Yeah, I might not have slept yet but I'm taking a shower and going to see how long I can stay awake for what will definitely be an eventful day.

For some reason my brain decided to do a whole alternative timeline/universe type dream today, was sad to say goodbye to it when I woke up. Brains are so weird.

Getting reeeaalllyyy done with the WoW community. I'm aware it is the vocal few usually, but recently my opinions seem to be at odds with the largely silent majority and I'm not sure I feel as welcome or useful anymore. Not sure what to do about that yet, but it sure is making me think a lot. Again.

After some feedback from the community that the tricky treat prices for Hallow's End decor were waaaay too high, Blizzard just dropped the prices to 10% of that they were. 350 => 35 250 => 25 200 => 20 150 => 15

Game archival being so important to me over the years sure has taken a nosedive recently with all these vibed reversed projects coming out of the woodworks after only weeks and sometimes days of vibing. Genuinely a stain on both the archival/reverse engineering community. All the fun is gone.

I also just straight up feel bad for having contributed as much as I have to this ecosystem and knowledge base for devs that want to mess with WoW stuff. But there's no going back now, so I might as well see it through as far as I can. I've also made the mistake of making it my job, so there's that.

Not me datamining all through the night forgetting the delivery window for a package I'm expecting starts in 2h45m until 12 hours from now. Oh dear. 1 REM cycle speedrun commencing.

Some = 1 decor piece but this is still pretty big. :D I was worried they wouldn't gives us access to these kind of effects for UX reasons, but the unleashed creativity far outweighs any negatives and I'm glad they came to the same conclusion.

There's something I've been meaning to clarify. Quaternions aren't actually the problem, they're the solution. But they're also spooky, and it's actually *not* using them that causes rotation issues. Kinda. This might get long, but stick with me here, and I'm gonna explain with weird metaphors.

As expected, 12.1.7 merges in most of the Forever-specific tech, albeit largely disabled. Still opens up some avenues though. 👀

Forever's "item is hidden and only sent down as a hotfix when its known on the server" thing is also happening on 12.1.7 PTR. 👀

The Kindo'jan fight is kind of a mess. A bunch of it is luck based where you have to hope you don't get the soak and juggernaut at the same moment, unless you are one of the races/classes that can work around it with a movement ability. Valeera also just stands in pools. Not sure it is thought out.

Okay, managed to do it with 2 lives remaining. When I get a few more item levels and Blizzard does a few (lot?) more hotfixes I'll have to take a stab at the not-dying-at-all achievement, but that's it for this week probably.

Welp, I see why people are getting stuck in Labyrinths, looks like progress tracking just breaks sometimes. Funnily enough, I can't open the in-game support browser either to report a bug, it just loads forever. When people are saying Blizzard is actively losing that polish, this is what they mean.

Tagging @support.blizzard.com here for the latter issue (assuming the rest are known) since that seems very unintended to just keep spawning mobs, or at least at that rate. Even Valeera almost immediately falls over.

Managed to get a new variant and finished that one without issues up to Kindo'jan, where I wiped a few times before giving up. I think I can do the fight with more practice, but not just yet.

Aaaand now I got DC'd in an almost finished labyrinth and kicked out, going back in and its fully reset. Argh.

The new variant I got starts with having to loot an Ancient Harvest Bundle and the fight just keeps spawning new mobs to defeat and you are fully unable to loot the things you need to when getting overwhelmed with enemies....and another DC. I think I'm going to have to retry tomorrow, unplayable. :(

An... interesting response to the recent influx of decompiled/remade/mixed-game vibecoded projects we've been seeing recently. Instead of fighting the wave they're going to try and ride it themselves. It is also noteworthy that only "agents" are mentioned, not AI/LLMs. news.xbox.com/en-us/2026/1...

Obviously not a fan of this. Interesting game concepts/remixes have shown up recently, like the Azeroth Survivors stuff, but at the end of the day these are still entirely vibecoded and in that case even in the hands of bad actors who want to keep it closed-source/monetize it (come on, really?).

It does really seem we're entering a new era of gaming/modding/piracy. I give it a few years before games come out as streaming/GeForce NOW only, just because companies don't want to give out access to clients/assets because they'll just be reverse engineered/replicated in a free manner. Big oof.

It has only been like 3 days but it feels good to be able to shower again. Definitely overstayed my welcome a bit in terms of standing too long but it was worth it.

Had a chat with someone a while ago that didn't understand why I am doing the community stuff I do as openly/freely available as I do. It made me realize that in this new age of AI, the balance between/combination of skill and knowledge being valuable factors has now vastly skewed towards knowledge.

The skill ceiling has been largely removed as AI can do most programming things well enough for the result to be acceptable to the average joe. The difference now is how much knowledge you can feed into the AI, not only by training but e.g. through wikis and other specific resources as well.

I've been debating transferring wowdev.wiki to someone else and to slow down my work on the listfile/DBDs because the primary users of these resources are no longer human, but at the same time that would be giving up to AI, which I don't want to do. Strange to have my ideology tested in this way.🤔

Huh, interesting. Didn't expect I'd enjoy another attempt at a Carrie adaptation, but this may be the best one yet. Amazon can still surprise me, I guess.

Marlamin@marlam.in

Started watching Carrie on my no-walking downtime and spotted 2 actors from Battlestar Galactica in the first few minutes, the old Vancouver filming classic.

1 more day of hanging on the couch watching TV with a leg up in the air. I think this is unironically the longest I've been without the desktop PC in a loooooong time. Feels a bit like detox. Not that not moving on the couch with a TV/phone is any better than slouching at a desk all day, but still.
