It’s probably not often that someone can say that after four years of work, they got hit by a car the week they planned to submit their PhD thesis. Even so, 2 nights in hospital, 8 staples in my head, and one hefty concussion only amounted to a 3 week delay, and what will be a funny story!

From hundreds of pages of account books and bills dutifully transcribed and categorized in excel, to letters between family and friends that made me laugh out loud in the archive, I wouldn’t trade one minute of it for the world!

Even if the circumstances surrounding my submission were less than ideal, spending this time rediscovering and elevating the voices of so many early modern women has been an absolute joy and privilege.

Question for the Restorationists: Does anyone know anything about a particular ‘stocking incident’ that happened c. 1671 that was so indecent that it couldn’t be described in a letter or printed in an 19th century volume of correspondence 👀

Had an amazing first day at #SHSConf2025 - Was so caught up in the excitement these were the only pictures I managed to take (whoops), but can confirm the Black Country Living History Museum makes the best conference venue EVER!

I realize it's been a long time so figured a Life/PhD Update is slightly overdue! In the last couple months I have: - Finished a second journal article - Completely transcribed and quantified several account books into Excel - Read a lot of letters - Clung onto my sanity

It’s been a while since I’ve been online (shamelessly been in the trenches transcribing account books) but you don’t want to miss out on another exciting term of WEMP!

🚨It might be April Fools Day, but our Easter Term CFP is no joke! This term we're open to papers covering any apsect of Early Modern History - Be sure to get your abstracts in by 18 April!🚨 [DM us for a Plain Text-Version]

Cambridge friends - I'll be presenting my research at the Early Modern British and Irish History Seminar next week on 12 February at 5:15 (in the Graham Storey Room, Trinity Hall) I would love to see some familiar faces there, along with anyone interested in the lifecycle and dress!✨

Here's the title for anyone interested: ‘“Mis wants an upper Coate…”: Sartorial Literacy and the Fashionable Lifecycle in 17th Century England’ It's a very fun whirlwind through the lives and clothing consumption of elite families in the late 17th-century!
