Over the next several months, we will phase out some popular OSF features. These changes do not affect current public content, which remains safe and accessible. We have prepared support material to help users adapt. I am very sorry for the disruption to your work. Please read this post for details.

Podcast episode out 🎙️ I had the pleasure to be interviewed by Serena M. Stagnitto (UniPV) on the podcast Psycho-Myths, addressing the common belief "numbers don't lie". We discussed topics of replicability, research choices, correlation vs. causation, & how to interpret scientific results 🔬 [1/2]

Our new preprint "fAIr science — How AI can support a transparent biopsychological research cycle" is out 🚀 AI is rapidly entering biopsychological research, from literature review and study design to data analysis. But can these tools advance open science, or do they risk undermining it? 👇 [1/4]

Read more about why we were shortlisted for the Best Research Environment prize! 👇 Still can’t wrap my head around this amazing recognition 🙌🏻

Scientific presenter by day… pub quiz host by night 🎙️ Another highlight was hosting the IGOR Social, where participants brilliantly fought for eternal glory in our pub quiz… including a trivia category on scientific misconduct & fraud 👀 #PuG2026 #IGOR @igor-dgps.bsky.social [2/3]

#PuG2026 in stunning Heidelberg was a blast! 🔥 Every year feels like a family reunion, with many possibilities to both informally network and scientifically connect with like-minded researchers. I was particularly happy to see a big focus on interoception! See you next year in Oldenburg 👋 [3/3]

The science communication prize at #PuG2026 went to @books-and-brains.bsky.social , and that blog idea really looks so cool! (booknerd here!) 📚💖✨🧠 My bookclub recently read "The other black girl" by Z.D. Harris. There is some weird brain stuff going on in there, if you need recommendations! haha

This year I've volunteered with @penneamiche.bsky.social, an initiative that connects Italian scientists and schools through letter exchanges 💌 From Sep to May, I wrote to a middle school class in Verona, sharing what it's like to be a neuroscientist and to build a research career abroad. [1/3]

Our letters became conversations about the brain, memory, emotions, the scientific method and the value of engaging with different cultures. I was amazed by the students' curiosity and thought-provoking questions: how are memories formed? Where do emotions come from? [2/3]

As an Italian scientist living abroad 🇮🇹->🇩🇪, experiences like this remind me how important it is to give back to the educational system that helped shape me and to make science more accessible, personal and human for young people. Beyond grateful for this opportunity! #scicomm #neuroskyence [3/3]

New conference tip to pay attention during keynote talks and deal with the scientific input overload from back-to-back symposia: bring your own crochet project 🧶 Listening to a talk on inter-brain synchrony and empathy at #PuG2026 while enjoying the benefits of rhythmic, cross-body movement 🧠

Another great #IGOR project outlining the strengths and pitfalls of using generative AI at each stage of the research cycle in biological psychology ♻️ Manuscript ready to be submitted, so stay tuned for this publication hopefully 🔜 #openscience

The third ongoing project is the perspective paper on using genAI in Biopsychology (led by @annesaulin.bsky.social @ufangyang.bsky.social @michaelgaebler.com @ocklenburg.bsky.social) Also stay tuned soon for the manuscript! 📣

A massive project comprising a systematic review of over 600 ❗️studies and an empirical analysis of how data transformation practices of peripheral physiological data impact effect sizes and reliability 📈📉 We’re finishing the systematic review manuscript - hopefully stay tuned for a preprint soon!

Excited to share our new preprint 📣 with P. Haggard, A. Villringer & @michaelgaebler.com Do internal bodily rhythms (cardiac + respiratory) shape not only when we act, but also our sense of agency (the feeling of control over actions and outcomes)? 🫀🫁 A thread below 🧵 [1/5]

However, tone binding was modulated by cardio-respiratory phase. ✔️Outcomes felt more self-caused when they occurred during inspiration, especially when paired with diastole. Thus, bodily rhythms gate action timing and selectively bias how we later interpret their sensory consequences. [4/5]

Previous work shows actions cluster in specific cardio-respiratory phases. We replicated this: people tended to act during early systole 🫀 and mid-expiration 🫁, suggesting bodily rhythms may act as carrier waves for voluntary action initiation 🌊 [2/5]

But what about sense of agency? Using intentional binding, we separated agency over actions and agency over outcomes. ❌To our surprise, agency over actions was unaffected by cardio-respiratory phase. Bodily rhythms didn’t seem to change the prospective feeling of controlling an action. [3/5]
