Noel Browne also developed a scheme for mothers and children partly influenced by the NHS which was blocked by members of the govt, medical profession and Catholic Church - this remains significant as Ireland still has yet to implement universal healthcare (though Sláintecare has made some progress)

In honour of #WorldTuberculosisDay read all about Dr Noel Browne, who lost his father, mother and older brother to TB, and who spent months in hospital suffering from the disease. As Minister for Health he launched a campaign to eradicate TB from Ireland. www.dib.ie/biography/br...

“For last year’s words belong to last year’s language. And next year’s words await another voice.” T.S. Eliot. May the turning of the year offer time for reflection, and the opportunity for better things for all in 2026.

Good news!

this might be quite a significant moment in the future of the UK Union. "A cross party group of Irish MEPs has written to the president of the European Parliament requesting that Northern Ireland political representatives be granted observer status at the Brussels and Strasbourg chambers."

End of an era. Last teaching day at LJMU. Grateful for some excellent and collegiate colleagues and for working with UG and PG students who will doubtless go on to great things in whatever direction they choose. 1/3

As a second-generation Scouser it’s been great to get to know the bossest city in England more - and nice to see iconic views at work. A short break now before new adventures - more to follow on here from me… 2/3
