I've been working on a new game and accidentally just spent 25 minutes playing it instead of working on it. This is a *very* good sign.

Today I spent several hours writing a Tetris tiling algorithm and optimizing it only to find out there's a GitHub repo that does the exact same thing but several thousand times faster... But then I found out it misses some cases so my version is technically more accurate so I'll take that as a win

The job center consultancy guy who is assigned to me told me to use the Google AI to try to solve my problems. Very reassuring. Very professional and competent consulting behavior.

I got a bar of double chocolate kitkat and was very disappointed to find out that instead of "twice as much good chocolate", "double chocolate" means "in addition to the good chocolate, we also put bad chocolate in it"

I have been learning 3D modeling and related software for the past weeks / months. FreeCAD, OpenSCAD, Blender. Learning how to rip game files and pose MikuMikuDance models. All for this moment. The moment when I discover the joy of making your blorbos kiss.

After 9 hours of printing, turns out I should've checked what the slicer output before hitting print 🙃 All the weird looking bits are empty layers because the geometry was messed up. All I had to do was press the "repair" button... I also ran out of black halfway through and many parts broke off

I bought my first microcontroller starter kit. The box was proudly labeled "WE LOVE OPEN SOURCE", but in order to do the tutorial stuff, you have to go to their website, create an account, install their software, and use their cloud service. Hm.

I finally got it to work by restarting the device, the cloud agent, the browser, and using a different USB port. Then it got stuck in an infinite loop trying to set up an example project.

After some fiddling I fixed that too, only to find out that I cant deploy the project because there is no "upload via USB" option, only "upload via cloud" which is a paid feature. Sure is nice having all this cloud bullshit forced on me and only at the end do I find out I have to pay for basic shit

Add to that that their own software fails to recognize their own device 90% of the time and that the first wiring diagram I've seen, that is intended specifically for this starter kit, can't actually be done because the included cables are too short. I have mixed feelings about this.

It is so disheartening to show someone something that you have worked many hours and days on and their only response is "Did you use AI to make that? I bet AI could make that too!"

I made it myself, had a lot of fun and learned valuable skills in the process. Why would I want AI to take that away from me just to allegedly save time? It'd still take time, I'd have to correct copious mistakes every step of the way, have no fun, learn no skills, and the end result would be worse.

I used to be so good at math in high school, but now that I have started technical 3D modeling I have realized that I don't remember SHIT Why am I doing this to myself, and why is it so fun

I found this photo of a stained glass window on the internet that says very religious and thoughtful things such as "stand fast in the faith", "watch ye", and *checks notes* "you like men"

@ganqinghaver.bsky.social Hello! Pardon the sudden inquiry, but I seem to remember you sharing a post about bookbinding resources / tutorials a while back, but I can't for the life of me find it. I want to get into it so I can make a gift for a friend. Do you happen to still have those links?

People usually say lucid dreams are fun, but today I had multiple lucid nightmares that I had to force myself to wake up from... Then later I tried taking a nap to make up for the lack of sleep, and I had, you guessed it, another lucid nightmare... I'm so tired...

I took the plunge and finally got a 3D printer. My current experiment: Printing Distorted Ellipsoidal Saddle keycaps for my keyboard! Left: 0.4mm nozzle Middle: 0.2mm nozzle Right: 0.2mm nozzle, but printed at 45° angle The right one feels buttery smooth, but broke off while printing.

With some better support structures while printing, I'm sure I can make a non-broken keycap. If all goes well, I can make an entire set! I also feel very very fortunate that I have a tiny knife whose blade is almost EXACTLY the width of a Cherry MX stem to fix any imperfections from the print.

PSA: Split keyboards are great. They are better for your shoulders and hands, and the added space inbetween can be great for putting things you often use, such as your phone. A soda glass is not one of those things.

There's a video that's kept showing up in my recommendations about an osu player who "wasted 6 years" because they didn't improve and couldn't climb the leaderboards. I've seemingly been playing the game wrong, because I always played it to have fun, not to be hypercompetitive.

I don't want to feel pressure to constantly improve or be left behind, to have to chase "the meta", whatever the fuck that may be. I'm tired of battle passes, loot boxes, FOMO, live service, and everything else that is even slightly adjacent, of players voluntarily making themselves miserable.

I don't want to constantly compare myself with others. I don't want to be constantly told that I'm worse than my opponents because I lost, or be recommended constant floods of tutorials claiming that I'm "playing the game wrong" because there's "optimal ways to play".

I don't want every multiplayer game to be about competition, about us vs. them, or even about me vs. my teammates because someone always has to be at fault when you lose. I just want games that incentivize fun, not games that incentivize anger and inferiority issues.

This type of thing is what has been ruining a lot of joy for me in the past 15 or so years. It started with League of Legends (my Original Sin), and ever since them I've seen more and more games / players that are all about competition for the sake of competition, and not fun.

Would transitioning my entire game engine to use Hue-Chroma-Luminance everywhere instead of RGB be a bad idea or an extremely galaxy-brained one? Asking for a friend

Why is it that programmers are expected to name their variables in an easy to understand manner, yet people who write up algorithms always use mathematical notation with the most random non-descript greek letters with tons of accents and no-one bats an eye? Just use WORDS goddammit, not HIEROGLYPHS
