Call me a fool (and many do), but if I were a country, I would welcome with open arms people who walked, cried and died over hundreds and thousands of miles driven by hope. Painting by Jacob Lawrence – The migration gained in momentum – 1940-41

My only surviving photo from the Ali-Chuvalo fight in 1972 at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, BC. Got a ringside seat as reporter from small Nanaimo daily newspaper, surrounded by Sports Illustrated, Time, etc. He got beat up, but didn’t go down.

American exceptionalism has no bounds. One of my first thoughts 25 years ago was "What about Palestine?" Today as the USA genuflects to its own misery, "What about Gaza, Lebanon, Ukraine, et al?" As per usual, nada.

If I were the sun, I’d give you my light, If I were the moon, I’d give you my night. If I were the sea, I’d give you my fish, If I were a star, I’d give you my wish. But I am a man, beneath a pall, Able to give only my all So take from me then, that what you can, But please remember, I’m only a man.

Now that I’ve reached the stage when words don’t come so easily I’ve realized that they’re not so vital, important or inherently wise. So, silence, after all, is a remedy for all the noise and hubbub while listening to the waterfall and the easy wind the ruffles all the leaves within hearing

I once decided to write a poem entitled The Loneliness of Climate Change but realized the title said it all, no other words were necessary to assuage our consumptive guilt. Entertaining ourselves to death, ReCreation fer gawd's sake, zipping around in precious vehicles on roads to about nowhere.

33 years ago came the Mosaic browser which blew our minds and we opened those first graphic web pages with anticipation… Now, not so much. Seems like we only visit www to become angry/dazed/confused

However hard we try to bring in the new it comes into being only in the midst of clumsy deals We're all so clogged with dead ideas passed from generation to generation that even the best of us don't know the way out We’ve invented the Revolution but we don't know how to run it Marat in Marat/Sade

When we were kids: Whistle while you work, Hitler was a jerk, Mussolini bit his weenie, now it doesn't work. Now: Donnie is a glutton, rotting piece of mutton, Gives the finger, doesn't linger, Off to do some ruttin'
