I am dangerously close to finally finishing writing my #brahmagupta episode of #themathrmaticianspod. I've got all my history facts, now i just need a 100% factual anecdote from my life that loosely relates.

Hey folks, I've started a #daily #logicpuzzle. I call it #numstep. Draw a self avoiding walk through my grids, if you can. bsky.app/profile/nums...

Hello World! I will be sharing (nearly) daily puzzles of #Numstep, a self avoiding walk #logicpuzzle. Simply draw a line of numbered steps through every white square, exactly once, such that you pass through the multiples of 10 in the correct order. Free puzzles available here, more on Ko-Fi.

The latest episode of #themathematicianspod this time it's another double bill with Varahimihira and Bhaskara I. ...And what's that... Mainly an episode about geography? I'll grab the popcorn. #mathshistory #talkingmaths

podbean.comEpisode 59 - Varāhamihira (And Bhāskara I) - Back to SchoolWas Varāhamihira the world's first statistician? Could a sixth-century mathematician really predict the monsoon using observational data? And how did Bhāskara I produce one of the greatest approximati...

The London #sciencemuseum have a great collection of maths history. I saw: A liquid computer for economic differential equations; an old trig circular slide rule; and the analogue computer for tide predictions. Good times all round, strongly recommend. #mathshistory #mathsinmuseums

A train leaves the station (bottom) heading west. Can it return to the station heading east? Is there anywhere the train might get stuck? Is there anywhere the train can reach but only from one direction? I call this directed node networks. #mathsky #graphtheory #math4kids

New episode is live, of #themathematicianspod. A much longer production process for my longest scraped episode. This time featuring the snorts and sniffles of my new baby asleep on my chest. Tune in to learn about merchants and maths in #ancientindia, with Yavanesvara. #talkingmaths #mathsky

mathematicians.podbean.comEpisode 57 - Yavanesvara - The Lord of the Greeks | The Mathematicians PodcastThe Silk Road carried spices, gemstones, ideas... and, occasionally, trigonometry. In this episode of The Mathematicians Podcast, we follow the mysterious figure known as Yavanesvara, the "Lord of the...

Gosh. I've just recorded the latest episode of #themathematicianspod with a raw time of 46 minutes. A record for me with a scripted episode. Hopefully the story of #yavanesvara will be worth it. Coming to you in probably 2-3 weeks.

I've been struggling to make a joke about how "a man with a hammer sees only nails." Except I have a rusted wheel bearing that I need to hammer "out", whilst a happer typically pushes "in". I was delighted to discover a "slide hammer" Is a real tool. And now I own one. P.s. got the bugger

I just glanced over my analytics page for #themathematicianspod. I am delighted that I have reached so many countries. *Scrolls down to near the bottom of the list* Oh cool, a single download from #Palestine... Wait, "Disputed" ‽ Could we not just say Palestine? (Or OPT, as the UN does)

Why, it's another episode of #themathematicianspod this time an interview episode with the fabulous @teakayb.mathsy.space, author of #themathrmaticianslibrary. Listen in to hear his thoughts on writing a book about books about maths. As well as more history and philosophy. #talkingmaths #mathsky

podbean.comEpisode 55 - Injective - Thomas K Briggs - On The Mathematicians' LibraryIn this special book club episode of 'The Mathematicians Podcast', I sit down with author, maths communicator, and museum learning consultant, Thomas K. Briggs. Join us for a glass of wine and a deep ...

I've just finished watching "Death by lightning" on Netflix. They appear to have missed the most interesting aspect of the #POTUS 's life, that President Garfield developed his own distinct proof of #Pythag, one without using any squares. Otherwise a good watch. #mathsky #somepresidentswereclever

My first attempt at a #DiscreteDynamicalSystem Take a number, n If (n-1) is prime then map n -> n^2 If (n-1) is composite then map n-> Aliquot sum of (n-1) Numbers 1-19 all end in a cycle. I am not sure about 20. eg. 6 -> 36 -> 13 -> 16 -> 9 -> 7 -> 6. #mathsky #recreationalmaths #mathsart

Try this. Take a number, n, split it into proper prime divisors. Write those, ascending, as the place values for a new term base n. Repeat this recursively. I think only 3 non-prime-powers will terminate. 10-> 25_10 25-> 5_25 5->0 12-> 23_12 27-> 3_27 3-> 0. What is the third number?
