Just getting back to snooker after several years away. I can't get any action on the cue ball, and I'm getting a ton of heavy contacts and kicks. Top-spin seems a little more reliable than screw shots. User error or a dead tip? Any recommendations for a replacement tip brand? #snooker #advice

Trump wants to replace NATO with bilateral pay-for-protection deals. He divides nations into Powers and Clients, with America, China and Russia as Powers and all else as Clients. All Clients are and should remain whole dependent for defence upon their host Power. Anything else is illegitimate.

My guess is that Vance went into his pre-scripted attack on Zelenski at that particular moment because Zelensky was describing how Putin breaks all deals, and Vance and Trump know that they were planning to break the deal with Zilensky he'd flown to the USA to sign.

I'm thinking of trying something totally new - a glass bowl no-filter aquarium with daphnia, underwater plants, and some house plants rooted into it from above. Perhaps a cold-water shrimp to keep the daphnia from getting too lonely. As a decorative alternative to green-water daphnia culture jars.

I've watched a ton of aquarium videos now, and people set up these amazing projects, incredible builds, that look stunning. But there's almost nothing showing how their aquarium or bowl ecosystem develops over 6 months or a year or two years. It's all about the builds, not the long-term living.

Overall, I enjoyed #thewheeloftime. The story structure was good, and the core fantasy mechanics worked well. It had great character-development. I'd definitely recommend it. I have a lot of issues with it, all of which no doubt have been discussed to death, but it was good enough to survive them.

#thewheeloftime I wanted more of: * how/why different forms of magical technologies work e.g. weaves, tree-singing, dream-walking, fore-telling... * the scale of that world -- we see a few peoples, but how much more is there? * more nods to 3rd and 2nd age buildings/ruins * foxes and snakes

#thewheeloftime things I did like a lot: * the very ending with Rand lighting his pipe seemed fitting, as someone who has transcended their ta'veren nature - and it meshes with Perin's understanding of the power of will in Tel'aran'rhiod, the Aiel view of life as The Dream, etc.

#thewheeloftime issue list 2: * clunky "catch-ups" between books, for new/forgetful readers * not enough exploration of the motivations of various forsaken * use-then-forget plot devices e.g. the ways, travelling stones, skimming, travelling, dream shifting

#weeloftime issue list 1: * pacing: story progressed slowly or not at all in places, and then all happened in a couple of chapters * boobieness: childish and repetitive objectification, often by author rather than by characters * noble savage and other race tropes: dated or problematic depictions

I'm half-way through book 12 of The Wheel of Time and my impressions so far is that this reads like the other 11 if they had gone through a competent (or indeed, any) editing process, and then a minor touch-up to modify out "problematic" content. Much easier to read IMHO. #wheeloftime

So instead of solving part 2 of day 6 of advent of code, I fell down a deep, deep yack-shaving rabbit hole, and now I am the proud owner of a bitset library, with operations and abstractions guaranteed to optimize away during compilation. Also, a stack-allocated Vec alternative. And benchmarks.
