Anthropic found the origin of the NIST elliptic curve seeds: they were generated with drand48()! No one was seriously worried, but this should put some FUD to rest, completing the NIST ECC rehabilitation arc… just in time to be retired in favor of PQ. Also, we raised $36 Ki for ISRG. Yay!

words.filippo.ioThe NIST Elliptic Curves Seeds Bounty Has Been ClaimedWe now know how the seeds of the NIST elliptic curves were generated: they’re not the hash of some saucy sentence, but the output of drand48() seeded with the time, which was indeed in 1997–98.

Is #iOS 27 official? The App Store tells me I cannot leave reviews while using a pre-release version of the OS. 🤔 #Apple

Cargo ships should be forbidden crossing through Stretto di Messina. Italy should preserve the environment and the crystal-clear coast line. @ec.europa.eu #Italy #Calabria #Sicilia

#SpaceX started as a space exploration project, then turned to data and AI with the IPO. Now they are going to change again to drilling. Objective: go deep down as much as possible

#Meta — Meta has launched legal action against scrapers, while simultaneously being one of the world’s biggest AI developers (Llama, Meta AI). Meta’s own crawler (Meta-ExternalAgent) saw an 843% rise in requests from July 2024 to July 2025 — scraping others at a massive scale.

#X / #Twitter — Took an aggressive stance against data scraping in mid-2023 by temporarily blocking all access to tweets for users who were not logged in, while Elon Musk simultaneously built #xAI and the #Grok LLM, which itself needed training data.

#Reddit — Introduced steep charges for API access, updated its terms to forbid data scraping, and started blocking crawlers . But here’s the twist: Reddit has licensing deals with Google ($60M/year) and OpenAI — they’re not anti-AI, just anti-free AI.

#Amazon — Blocks AI crawlers across its properties, while running one of the world’s largest AI platforms (AWS Bedrock, Alexa, Titan models).

Watching the tech industry unleash unpredictable software into production in the name of AI adoption, then spend twice as much time and money trying to limit the blast radius, proves humans should be investing in our own intelligence before allowing the machines to mimic us.

This is 🥜 and awesome 🤩

CSS is DOOMed! I've build DOOM in CSS and every wall, floor, barrel, and imp is a div, positioned in 3D space using CSS transforms. cssdoom.wtf Try it out! But... not every browser can handle it. This is taking the browser to its limit. Chrome has some issues. Safari too. Bugs will be filed.

When it was slow to write code, it was slow to accumulate technical debt. What is it about LLMs that won't result in accumulating technical debt even faster than before?

Quando @cloudflare.social cesserà le sue attività in Italia, i piccoli oligarchi del calcio saranno i primi a vedere i loro servizi andare giù. La @ec.europa.eu dovrebbe intervenire una volta per tutte.

@ec.europa.eu should join too. Considering Trump’s threats on Greenland, sanctions are BS.

What frustrates me of iDevices are updates. Verifying takes more than installing them, and the latter isn’t exactly a flash

Oxymoron: _free internet is a luxury_. Internet is *expensive*, services are expensive. Big Tech has given free service for years, at the cost of users’ privacy. Which has never been a problem until it became evident and abused. Privacy-friendly services surged, at a premium cost.

Paid search engines, paid email, paid social media, paid (private) cloud storage. Streaming, email, search, storage, messaging, security, … at the end of the month it’s a hefty price amount.
