hi friends I'm very excited to announce Halfspace, my experimental cross-platform IDE for solid modeling with distance fields! This has been in progress since midway through last year, and it's finally "done enough" to make it more public.

Similarly, I worked on a project with a C++ core (written by the software team), which called Python scripts (written by a different team), which called a Go binary (because Python was too slow for heavy data processing)
i once inherited a webservice written in php that shelled out to a python script that called a haskell binary to parse, edit, commit, and push bind zone configs to svn
you may not like it, but this is what peak API design looks like
tl;dr the API to submit a rendering job only gets a CommandEncoder and StagingBelt, but no direct access to the Device or Queue. this forces you to build EVERYTHING in advance (most notably bind groups), and makes it impossible to mess up queue submissions (that’s the callers problem!)
watching Black Panther 2 in a Boston-area theater was hilarious – you could feel the crowd getting rowdier and rowdier during the city-warping car chase, then a whale jumps out of the Charles River (upstream of the dam) and everyone just lost it
ok so you know how, if you know a city's actual geography, car chase scenes drive you insane because shots jump all over the city? Here's a dumb visual gag someone should do: Each shot jumps to a different city, but *on the same street*, eg Broadway in SF to Broadway in NYC

alright chat, who are the two customers that together account for $3.3B of Anthropic revenue? both good and bad answers are acceptable
Anthropic S-1 leaks from the WSJ - $16.3bn in 1H revenue (vs $1.1bn in 1H '25) - Nearly $9bn in compute spend - $450bn of future compute obligations (over next 7-10 years) - 1H net loss of $80.7bn (but only $8.7bn ex convertibles valuation changes - Very close to breakeven on an operating basis

I love a good register allocator writeup: hexrat.cc/pages/blog/2...
Tired: Undisclosed AI usage is fine, stop using Pangram on my Substack articles. Wired: Undisclosed AI usage is bad because it plagiarizes from everyone in the training data. Inspired: Undisclosed AI usage is bad because it plagiarizes from Claude, who is a moral actor.
New post on how as AIs continue to get smarter, confusing their outputs with your own (e.g. undisclosed AI-written essays) increasingly resembles plagiarism, with all its nasty side-effects including disempowerment. croissanthology.substack.com/p/anthropomo...

it's a new season for technology & for technologists, and our labor and its impact to the world are both more greater and more dangerous than ever. how do we make sense of work in an industry many of us no longer recognize?
