Thank you to everyone who reached out after this aired on Monday. The experience of grieving is so stigmatized and shrouded in silence. Yet we all experience it at some point. Imagine if we felt freer to drop the facade, just for a moment, and be real about our pain. Even with a stranger on BART.

A few days after her sister died, Maureen was on the subway when a stranger asked how she was doing. The conversation that followed is one that she will forever cherish.

Dream: 14 free throws Valkyries: 13 free throws For the 5-game series it’s Dream 130, Valks 78 Both teams are aggressive, fighting for every possession & getting knocked around. Not like Atlanta got here being a finesse team & suddenly are getting screwed. Stop crying 🚫😭

Good for Nakase to switch up the starting line-up for a faster start and cushion to withstand the Dream’s runs. Series tied 2-2.

I'm in Tara Vaderveer's Strategy cont. ed. class right now. She just said she's blown away with how great Gabby Wms has done this season. And she sang the praises of the Valkyries.

Just weeks before an election — literally as people are voting — the regime is: Trying to strip a member of Congress of her citizenship Trying to disqualify 20,000 California voters based on flimsy claims WHILE PEOPLE ARE VOTING Truly fascist behavior

Hot take? I'll start. Having Alanis Morrisette, 90s pop star, queen of irony (literally!) and cynicism was antithetical to everything The Valkyries are about. No shade on Alanis. She was great. But it just isn't the rallying cry we needed.

Not that I think the S*** Spangled Banner is a meaningful anthem for this team at all. But it set a certain tone that just wasn't in sync with Balhalla.

When a society begins livestreaming executions, it signals a deep moral and spiritual decline. In the U.S., this moment reveals how normalized state‑sponsored violence has become, how easily human dignity is dismissed, and how little awareness there is of the corporate trauma such acts unleash.

Bay Area voters: be sure to vote YES on regional measure RTM #YESonRTM. Kinda chic to get all political and #FundtheBus. Thanks for saving Bay Area transit.

WARNING: This story will have you bee-lining to Andy's in Morgan Hill!

Back when I was hosting the California Report for @kqednews.kqed.org, I got to know the delightfully erudite pomologist David Karp, and he turned me on to Andy's Orchard in Morgan Hill.

Curious why a year-old story with “gang bang” in the headline is now trending as a most-popular on SF Standard? I wonder why that might possibly be. And it all makes my stomach turn. Where’s the witch Circe when you need her, turning predators into pigs?

I am not trying to fear monger, but I do not trust the people running the post office with our ballots. If you can vote early in person or at least use an official ballot box, please do so. Let’s get a blue tsunami! Please comment if this chart has inaccurate info because it was texted to me.

For those in the UK and other countries where the lie is called a “war on motorists” rather than a “war on cars,” here’s a poster version for you to use and share. Either way, never forget, if there’s REALLY been any war in cities, it’s been a century-long WAR ON WALKING. #UrbanTruth #WarOnWalking

This was always going to be the next step. There are no trans players in the WNBA so instead they're going after cis women who are insufficiently feminine for them.

U.S. Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-IN) claims the WNBA is "trying not to offend some of their players who ... [are] trying to live a male lifestyle": "They protect the lesbian structure that's inside the WNBA with a male quote-unquote female relationship that are two women."

Corporate transparency and accountability for their carbon emissions is a critical step in fighting climate change. I passed California’s law requiring large corporations to disclose their carbon emissions. It’s now being implemented, under continued intense corporate opposition.
