When my colleague @maxrn.bsky.social discovered fmr NYC Mayor Eric Adams had been hired to convince Wisconsin residents to allow a 150MW data center to be built at the site of an old paper mill, we had MANY questions. So Max headed to Wisconsin Rapids to answer them. His delightful dispatch here:

What the hell was Eric Adams doing selling a data center in Wisconsin? How did this happen? And why did it all go so wrong so very very fast? For @hellgatenyc.com I went to Wisconsin Rapids to find out, and add another chapter to the Eric Adams lore. hellgatenyc.com/eric-adams-w...

The Timeless Torches at Liberty games are now 40+ ?!?!?! Insane. Not exactly timeless! Could still be in Alvin Ailey! Could still be playing ball! LeBron is a Timeless Torch!

Four years ago, we launched Hell Gate. Today, if we sell just a few more subscriptions, we'll pass a REALLY important and totally crazy milestone. Great news if you want us to hit that milestone—subscriptions are just 99 cents...and you get a shirt. Sign up! hellgatenyc.com/99-cent-t-sh...

Yes you could spend so so much money decking Sunnyside Yards OR you could just BRT Northern Boulevard and demolish the car dealerships and build so, so much housing in this transit-rich, wildly important stretch of the borough. Good to see everyone coming around to the latter idea!

RIP to all-time alt-weekly jails watchdog great Kelly Davis, who was always incredibly generous with her time, readily shared knowledge and compared notes, and was also cool as hell www.sandiegouniontribune.com/2026/07/01/k...

So you're not going to believe this but turns out James Dolan, yes THE James Dolan, is a giant piece of shit, has ALWAYS been a piece of shit, and anyone who tried to convince you he was NOT a piece of shit or somehow smeared away the feces from his body should feel really really stupid right now

NEW FROM ME: The person who will be responsible for filling dozens of court vacancies in NYC is now taking money from billionaire Steve Cohen to defend him in a lawsuit against his casino. He's also the mayor's former election lawyer and a friend of his. hellgatenyc.com/ali-najmi-st...

hellgatenyc.comWhy Is the Mayor's Friend and Former Lawyer Working for Billionaire Steve Cohen?Ali Najmi, who scored a plum unpaid City Hall gig overseeing judicial appointments, is now appearing in court on behalf of the owner of the Mets and the largest fine in SEC history.

Billionaire heiress police commissioner Jessica Tisch is smugly taking clean hits on her boss, the mayor, in front of the entire City Council, cheered on by its speaker. City Hall is letting this continue for political reasons, but it's increasingly unsustainable. hellgatenyc.com/nypd-commiss...

hellgatenyc.comForget About Mamdani's Campaign Promises—NYPD Commissioner Tisch Confirms She's Doing Things Her WayOn headcount, overtime, incarceration, and low-level arrests, Tisch appears to be bucking the Mayor’s purported criminal justice reform agenda.

Jessica Tisch is a tradeoff for keeping peace with Gov. Hochul, whom the Tisch's have showered with campaign cash. But with Rikers population still soaring, and borough-based jails finally going up, will Mamdani continue to allow Tisch to clog the court system with BS arrests? And openly defy him?

I recently joined Gotham Bat Conservancy on a bat walk in Prospect Park and learned all about the incredible comeback story of the long-maligned NYC bat. Since 2007, a deadly fungus has wiped out much of our local bat population. But a passionate community of bat lovers is helping them recover 🦇❤️
