Been a little while, but I made some great progress on the next iteration of typerfast.com (personalized typing exercises) this weekend. I'm typing at work today, and my fingers are way more confident because I really drilled my weaknesses. Big updates are coming!

For over a decade -- probably forever -- Reddit has had the worst error pages on the web. I get the joke, haha - but blaming users for your 500s is not cool. Snoo is sad because of something I did? Actually, no, you get the F.

It baffles me that companies ask for sexual orientation on your application. I get that this is intended to combat discrimination, but the fact that it's in any way part of the hiring conversation feels outlandish.

typerfast.com, my adaptive typing trainer, has come a long way since I started working on it 3 months ago, thanks to great feedback from paying users. Now there are varied targeted exercises, a much better UI, and expanded analytics. I hope you give it a look!

I've been working on Typerfast.com full-time (get better at typing), while TinyLogger.com (write consistently) is functional. Without too much effort, TinyLogger has been gaining users one by one. It's an amazing feeling. Long-term I'm hoping one app will feed into the other.

Can someone explain to me how we just had a huge debate about TikTok, but people are going to be sharing their deepest fears and thoughts with DeepSeek (literally called... that) and nobody's ringing any alarm bells?

Got an email from a user that absolutely made my day. Building small products is a lonely, quiet affair most days, and feedback like this is incredibly motivational. TinyLogger has been growing slowly but surely over the last few months, even without all the great features I still plan to build.

One thing I noticed about coding is that I avoid hard tasks and procrastinate with little design tweaks. (Like washing dishes instead of the hard thing you have to do.) So now I give myself one small design tweak to get into the code, then I get into the hard thing.

I’m prototyping these 3D printed constellation cards where on one side you see a modern representation of it and the back has a historical one. I love how the matching stars line up and you can compare what’s the same vs not…but this means that one side is mirrored. Will that be too confusing? 🤔

One of the biggest differences I feel working on typerfast.com is that the architecture (ts/react/vite/express) feels a lot more sustainable. I'm not afraid that any lil change might screw up the app. It took me multiple projects to get to this point. Going to write more about it soon.

Yes, I wanted to write more, so I built a blogging platform, and now I write on it more. Yes, I wanted to type faster, so I built a typing trainer, and now I'm starting to type faster. If nothing else, I get to benefit from my own tools, and I'm more motivated when I build it.

i know everyone’s tired of talking meta level but i’m really happy that i finally was able to cut over to posting just here. twitter felt pretty addictive even this spring and summer. but as our app got less wonky and we added features like quotes, it reached the good enough level for me personally
