I have worked in mainstream media for most of my career, and have been an ardent defender of it as a result… and now I feel so stupid for doing so.

The news that CBS had canceled “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” prompted plenty of speculation about the network’s motivations. But “the underlying point is clear”: late-night TV has lost its value, David Sims argues: https://theatln.tc/IOcxZNKr

Love when I nod in agreement to Tucker Carlson and roll my eyes to Van Jones.

Drop Site@dropsitenews.com

CNN’s Van Jones urges “progressives” to “get on board” with bombing Iran: “I think progressives underestimate how dangerous Iran is. Iran is not a normal country,” he said on air. Jones did not share whether he considers Israel—an apartheid state currently committing genocide—a “normal country.”

“Trump’s unorthodox trade strategy: it’s simple, and it could save Americans hundreds of billions of dollars, but might there be a hidden drawback?”

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "We were losing hundreds of billions of dollars with China. Now we're essentially not doing business with China. Therefore, we're saving hundreds of billions of dollars. It's very simple."

I say this with no exaggeration: this is the funniest fucking thing he’s ever said.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "An old fashioned term that we use -- groceries. I used it on the campaign. It's such an old fashioned term, but a beautiful term. Groceries. It says a bag with different things in it."

I can’t remember the last time I saw a post on Bluesky or Twitter that linked to an interesting story that didn’t have to do with the undoing of America. I wish social media wasn’t completely broken.

It is not an exaggeration that the first domino was a 200 word blog post by Owen Thomas in Valleywag in 2008 and the last domino is the ushering in of American fascism.

There are so many evil and downright stupid people in this country who want all manner of terrible things to happen to others but I guarantee you there isn't one who wants to die in a plane crash because some juvenile billionaire thought it was epic and based to sabotage all of them.

Fucking FINALLY

The Athletic@theathletic.com

SportsNet New York will launch a subscription streaming service on Tuesday that allows cord-cutting fans to watch games without paying for a TV bundle. The move continues an MLB trend that hopes to combat blackouts, writes @evandrellich.bsky.social. More: www.nytimes.com/athletic/614...

The fact that anything can just be spoken into “truth” for literally half the country really makes me wonder how we can ever collectively recover from this as a country.
