The Congressional App Challenge encourages students to flex their coding skills and turn their ideas into reality. I caught up with Akash, last year’s winner for VA-04, to hear about his experience coding Elderlink AR. Submit your app BY NOON TODAY and get involved!

In 2018, the Virginia General Assembly expanded Medicaid on a bipartisan basis. In 2025, Virginia Republicans in Congress voted for the largest Medicaid cuts in American history. I joined the @protectourcare.org “Sick of It” Bus Tour in Virginia Beach to show how these cuts endanger Virginians.

To ensure that all citizens can participate in our government by, of and for the people, each generation must fully understand the rich and complex history of its founding. I joined Rep Haridopolos to introduce a bill to establish National American History and Founders Month.

Amidst a crisis that forces millions to pay more for groceries, gas and more, nearly half of Virginia households can’t get enough to eat. Food assistance organizations can’t meet the demand. Meanwhile, Republicans cut food assistance to fund tax breaks for billionaires and wars that drive up costs.

Food pantries across Central Virginia are struggling to keep up as demand surges and donations decline. Feed More has seen a 20% increase in demand this year, while a new study finds that 42% of Virginia households experienced food insecurity.

Happy #IndigenousPeoplesDay! Virginia has eleven tribes recognized by the Commonwealth, seven of which are federally recognized. Each has played a pivotal role in shaping our history for thousands of years. Today, we celebrate their rich histories, cultures and traditions.

By gutting the Office for Civil Rights and rolling back Title IX protections, the Trump Administration’s Department of Education has failed Jane Doe, Kendall Francis and countless other students whose stories are not in the news. They deserve better.

Jane Doe and Kendall Francis are not alone. 1 in 4 women experience sexual violence while in college. And Trump’s Dept of Ed. is doing nothing to address it. They have gutted the very Office tasked with enforcing Title IX and formally reinstated regulations that weaken protections for survivors.

Advancements in AI and robotics contain great potential for the future of our digital world, but also pose great risks if left unchecked. I joined Washington Post Live’s AI Edge Summit to discuss why Congress must act to harness the best in these technologies and place guardrails to avoid harms.

In a government by, of and for the people, the right to vote is sacred. That’s why today I joined Reps. Morelle, Walkinshaw, Scott, Subramanyam and Vindman for a shadow hearing on the importance of securing our elections and protecting the integrity of American democracy.

As a state senator, I was proud to carry the legislation making Virginia the 38th and final state necessary to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment in 2020. RATIFIED tells the story of how we did it. I joined the filmmaker and members of the team for a screening and discussion.

Every year, I honor veterans living across VA-04 and name one veteran in the district whose contributions both during and beyond their military service have improved the lives of those in our community. Nominations are now open through October 28th for the 2026 Veteran of the Year!

Virginians recognize the historic value of the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields National Historic District. That’s why I’ve joined the Virginia and West Virginia Congressional delegations to expand its boundaries and preserve these hallowed lands for generations to visit, learn from and enjoy.

Today, we honor the Gold Star mothers and families whose loved ones made the ultimate sacrifice in service of their country. Thank you for your courage and resilience in the face of profound loss.

For over a thousand years before European settlers arrived, the Chickahominy people lived along the Chickahominy River. This weekend, I joined the 74th Annual Chickahominy Indian Tribe Fall Festival & Pow-Wow to bring greetings and celebrate their history, culture and traditions.

I am saddened to hear of Jim Ukrop’s passing. As a businessman, philanthropist and civic leader, there was no bigger booster for the City of Richmond. Jim’s passion for closing the racial divides in the former Capital of the Confederacy knew no limits.

A self-described “dot connector,” he loved identifying young talent and connecting them to people who could help them reach their full potential. I am honored to be one of the dots he helped connect over the years, and to have called him a friend. Godspeed, Jim.

Happy National Public Lands Day! This year, we celebrate “Caring for Our Shared America,” honoring the milestones of our nation and its connection to these communal outdoor spaces.

VA-04 boasts three national parks and historic sites: the Richmond National Battlefield Park, Petersburg National Battlefield and Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site. We also have hundreds of public lands throughout the Commonwealth, including roadless areas protected for recreation and more.

ICYMI: last week, the House passed the 2026 WRDA. The bill included three initiatives I requested to better manage flood control for the James and Appomattox Rivers, increase funding for the Chesapeake Bay Oyster Recovery Program, and improve water infrastructure for Henrico County!

During this year’s National Food Safety Month, it seems like we face a new food recall or foodborne illness every day after waves of mass layoffs and funding cuts at the FDA. Here are just a few of the recalls you may have missed.

Republicans failed to repeal the ACA because it’s popular. Instead, they have tried to inflict death by a thousand cuts through as many schemes as they can to undermine it. Everyone deserves to access the care they need it when they need it. I’ll keep fighting to ensure they get it.

Breaking news: Vice President JD Vance is set to announce that the administration is removing hundreds of thousands of people from Affordable Care Act coverage, saying that they were fraudulently enrolled in the government health program.

The Freedom Riders faced a violent backlash across the Deep South leading to the ban on racial discrimination in interstate transportation and terminal facilities on this day 65 years ago. We can repay that debt by fighting to ensure the progress they gained does not slip away.
