Wistfully wishing that Mamdani was your mayor isn't enough. You need to start loudly demanding these things of your local politicians. Turn up to whatever public meetings they have and demand these things in front of others so the demanda can spread. Democratic socialism IS AN OPTION.

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

Here's how we get Medicare for All done: Make Medicare whole (no one can keep all the parts straight!) Include vision, dental, and hearing. Begin extending to more people, starting with children. We arrive at Medicare for All, which means great Medicare for everyone.

Let's take a minute to 'think about them beans'. Toe beans, that is. Why do some animals have little pink nubs on their feet, while others... don't? Let's start by looking at the-things-between-the-beans minus the fur. Time to look at a Sphynx cat's foot, up close. CW: cannot be UNSEEN.😬

Mountain lions are making American roads safer by frightening away deer. On Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, where cougars were most active, deer-vehicle collisions fell 76%. Deer kill up to 440 Americans a year; cougars have killed 29 Americans since 1868. buff.ly/9bDfEKZ #ShareGoodNewsToo

Hi, I'm Tracie. I'm a primatologist, a mom, and a book nerd. The instrumental bit towards the end of Lankum's "Wild Rover" in their NPR Tiny Desk Concert makes me feel like I've left my body and am traveling back in time. Would you like to introduce yourself with a small song moment you like?

There’s a lot of terrible things going on but this is a genuinely great thing.

A tetanus-diphtheria vaccine that doesn’t need a fridge has passed its first human trial. UK scientists reformulated a licensed shot using trehalose, the sugar that lets desert plants survive without water, keeping it stable for up to two years at 30°C. Gavi buff.ly/1kNIUHB #ShareGoodNewsToo

It's #WorldOrangutanDay. I've never had the opportunity to know an orangutan personally - this is good, as the fewer condemned to a captive life, the better. Please join me in thanking the amazing humans who are fighting daily to save orangutans, one individual at a time. photo - Wkmdia Cmmns

Animals in the wild also don't have butt cheeks. We do because of the posterior shift of gluteal muscles for bipedalism. Sorry hominins: walking upright = you got to wipe your ass.

Oh my god the dietician who is telling everyone in the White House to only eat steak and sauerkraut doesn't wipe his ass.

Relatedly: If you're a college professor, and you assume that all of your students can type quickly, efficiently, and accurately on a keyboard, you're almost certainly wrong.

Jess Calarco@jessicacalarco.com

I wonder if students today would be less likely to lean on AI for writing assignments if schools had made sure they could touch-type (at least 60wpm) before having them submit all their assignments online. 1/🧵

I am also in this faculty and, reader, it shows. UK unis are in their bullshit jobs era now: "In my faculty, six administrators support ten managerial roles at faculty level while another six administrators support departments with their 900 FTE academic staff who teach 10,000 students."

Today university fees rise again, while thousands of academics across the country face job cuts, crushing workloads and shattered morale. Students deserve better than this broken system of unfair repayment that widens inequality. Abolish fees and fund universities properly!
