"I'm one of those #BrownBirds," and the camouflage serves me well in the fall as a song sparrow." #BirdOfTheDay #naturephotography #birds

"I usually stay down in the underbrush, but today I'd like to be admired for my good looks!" An adorable ovenbird #BirdOfTheDay #Green #ovenbird #naturephotography #birds

Watching these river otters in the long grasses of a local pond was not easy but I managed to get a few good looks. #mammals #naturephotography #otters

"I got one!" mumbled the adult Bonaparte's gull with a full mouth, while a flying companion not in breeding colors scanned the waters below - looking quite elegant while at it! #BirdOfTheDay #Gulls #naturephotography #birds

14 years ago, it was my privilege to see this male variable sunbird in Kenya early one morning. It was not too long after #Dawn and its colors showed beautifully! #BirdOfTheDay #Africanbird #naturephotography #birds

"What are we doing here?" wondered one of the mockingbirds as they had a mid-air tussle.... #BirdOfTheDay #JKLM #northernmockingbird #naturephotography

The solitary sandpiper was one of the first #ShoreBirds that I began photographing. I haven't seen any for a while now. #BirdOfTheDay #birds #naturephotography

This American robin was #LookingDown as it fed on cedar berries. That time of year is now approaching again but sadly the trees in my garden don't have a crop of berries this year. Hopefully next year! #BirdOfTheDay #birds #naturephotography

These Cape May warblers were surprise visitors to my yard a couple days ago. One never knows what migration season will bring to you. #BirdOfTheDay #Brown #naturephotography #birds

"I hope you know where you're going," said Ms. Mallard to her mate as they flew to join their feathered family at a local lake. #BirdOfTheDay #Ducks&GeeseInFlight #naturephotography #birds

"Do you like my multi-colored feather costume?" said the speckled tanager in Costa Rica #BirdOfTheDay #Green #naturephotography #birds

I hadn't expected to see this chestnut-sided warbler as one of the #Waders but it remarked, "If you want to eat and drink, you gotta do what you gotta do!" #BirdOfTheDay #naturephotography #birds

This may have been posted in the past for another theme but it fits with the idea of #Eating as a Canada goose gosling bends to put food in its mouth. They are so adorable. #BirdOfTheDay #birds #naturephotography

"Do you like my colors?" asked the great-crested grebe while it floated surrounded by #BlueWater #BirdOfTheDay #naturephotography #birds

Perhaps because they are common in this part of North Carolina or "unassuming" little birds, the Carolina wren tends to be one of the #UnsungBirds - I don't know many birders who get excited when they spot one! (This one is my screen saver right now. 😊)

This Eastern meadowlark was calling loudly against #BlueSkies that showed off its beautiful coloring. #BirdOfTheDay #naturephotography #birds

This barred owl had #WingsOpenNotFlying just before it plunged off the branch to snatch a crayfish in the pond just down below. Gorgeous bird# #BirdOfTheDay #raptor #naturephotography #birds

Hope these are not repeat posts! A lovely red-bellied woodpecker today for #Black&Red hoping we all have a marvelous day today! #BirdOfTheDay #woodpecker #birds #naturephotography

The chestnut-headed oropendola (in Costa Rica) has one of the #BestBeaks - hope everyone's weekend will be wonderful coming up! #BirdOfTheDay #birds #naturephotography

The Americana robin does not have many #Vivid colors but the rusty hues show up well in the autumn. #BirdOfTheDay #birds #naturephotography

Haven't even processed all my photos from this month but I quite liked these, with one showing a yard visitor who has a unique look. The downy woodpeckers usually have a pure black patch atop their heads, but the one on the right showed speckles! #BirdOfTheDay #naturephotography #birds #woodpecker

This contribution to #EFG might have been posted in the past, but another share is worthwhile. The Eastern bluebirds chose a weird place for their nest in 2023 at a local park. Fortunately, signs were placed so the dog owners did not collect their bags there. #BirdOfTheDay #naturephotography

This migrating ruby-throated hummingbird was #Airborne at the feeders but also checked out the ant guards to see if there were wee insects flying about there. These migrants are drinking a lot of nectar and very busy chasing bugs to fill up for the migration ahead! #BirdOfTheDay #naturephotography

Here is a couple that showed off their amorous intentions a few years back for today's views of #Pairs - the downy woodpeckers are such lovely and lively avians! #BirdOfTheDay #birds #woodpeckers #naturephotography

I'm not sure how the great-crested grebe's foot structure helps it have success as one of #TheDivers but it obviously works! #BirdOfTheDay #grebe #naturephotography #birds

My #Raptors posting is my only photo of a peregrine falcon, earth's fastest bird that can exceed 320 km/h (200 mph) in its dives. I swung up my camera without looking at settings when it flew overhead; not a great shot but it made me happy! #BirdOfTheDay #raptor #naturephotography #birds #falcon

"These earth-bound two-legs are so damn persistent! I can't even take a rest at peace for a minute. So, ok, I'll give you one look at my profile and then PLEASE leave!" #BirdOfTheDay #CaptionThatBird #birds #naturephotography #blackshoulderedkite

One of these African penguins in a colony in Muizenberg near Cape Town was looking a little #Scruffy and was getting a helping hand in grooming from a mate. This was taken back in 2007. Today they are listed as critically endangered. #BirdOfTheDay #penguin #birds #naturephotography

Two great horned owls (in different years) showing and "ears-up" and "ears-down" view for our #ODG theme of #BirdOfTheDay. #raptors #naturephotography #birds

Today's lesson for me was that the grosbeaks are part of the #Finches family, today's alt BAD theme. So here are two beautiful evening grosbeaks seen in different years. #BirdOfTheDay #naturephotography #birds

These were 2 great-crested grebes in Switzerland that were courting in preparation for becoming #Mamas&Papas - it was really enjoyable watching them! #BirdOfTheDay #naturephotography #birds

This may not be exactly one of the #BirdsInAbstract we are seeing today, but I thought it was an interesting pose that the blue grosbeak was taking. #BirdOfTheDay #birds #naturephotography
