Just finished reading the superb book "The Making of International Status" by @mduque.bsky.social and wrote a short note for @jpeaceresearch.bsky.social about it here: www.prio.org/journals/jpr... Excellent piece of work! By far my favorite IR book so far (although it's far more than IR...) 🙂

The book argues that status isn't something states have—it's something made among them. Using network analysis of diplomatic relations, it shows how patterns of recognition born of empire still shape who's seen as "worthy" today.

For those interested in IR theory, diplomacy, and security—this one’s for you. I hope it sparks new conversations about recognition, hierarchy, and the social foundations of world order. Always happy to connect with others working on these questions and would love to hear what you think!

My book "Resistance to Gender Quotas in Latin America" is out, and it's *open access*! The book explores the puzzle of gender quotas—a policy to increase women's representation, adopted when men, who may be affected by these policies, are the majority of legislators. academic.oup.com/book/59749

The United States and Europe have had 1000 days to tip the balance of military power decisively in Ukraine’s favor, but they chose not to. Biden’s decision on ATACMS will help, but like much else in this war, it is too little too late. My latest for the @bulletinatomic.bsky.social

thebulletin.orgBiden allowing Ukraine to strike into Russia is much ado for little consequenceIt took 1000 days for Western allies to let Ukraine use their long-range missiles against Russia. It's probably too little too late.

You are up to date.
