medhat.devSoft Navigations, Chrome Finally Sees More Than My First PageWell, I have a small confession to make, since I renewed my website, every click you make after the first page is a soft navigation, and until a few months ago Chrome didn't measure those by default,....

I still think "tree shaking" should be called "tree trimming" 🌲 Either way, before you add an npm package, check its bundle size and how tolerant it is to tree shaking, large bundle libraries are one of the core reasons websites get slow. medhat.dev/blog/what-ma...

Proud to share that @GoogleDevExpert has extended my recognition as a Performance expert for a 5th year. Thankful for the trust and excited to continue contributing to the dev community in 2026.

Hey 👋 two weeks ago I had the chance to speak again in one of my favorite events of the year Performance.sync() Here is the recording of my talk It’s always great to participate in such a insightful event and meet all those perf experts in one place ❤️ #webperf youtu.be/TWomRHSevgc

fuck vercel, fuck Next.js, fuck Svelte, fuck Turborepo, fuck SWR, fuck SWC Posing with the architect of a genocide for sales leads is an insane and deeply immoral stance these projects cannot separate themselves from the CEO of the company who funds them

These past couple of weeks have been hard. I lost my dad, and everything has felt different since. I’ve kept going, mostly through work, but outside of that… it has been hard to engage. I’m not back to full speed, and maybe I won’t be for a while. But I’m ready to reconnect. Slowly, honestly.

Keep in mind that the more sizes you include, the less likely you are to get a cache hit which can be worse for performance than a slightly mis-sized image. For example, there isn't enough of a difference between 600 and 640 px to make it worth that difference.

I am super excited to share that I will speak at @devworldconference.bsky.social in Amsterdam RAI on the 28th of Feb 🎉 My talk will be as usual about web performance, especially "Speculation Rules: how to load pages by thinking" with a live Demo to instantly load pages online, don't miss it out ;)

Today is the day for me to speak about #speculationrules

This is great

👀 DOM Node.moveBefore is coming? Move a node from one tree to another 👍 Chromium: in canary, intent to ship 🆕 👍 Firefox/Gecko: positive 👍 WebKit: positive Already in HTMX 😄 Looks like this could be useful for React too 👀

React Compiler is great but not like Harry Potter’s wand, You can’t just point it to a slow app and say “performance repairoo!!” And it magically turns it to super fast If you have stories with it not being magical as it seems, please write it here, preparing a talk about it and would be useful

As of Chrome 131 you have more options to style `<details>` and `<summary>`. You can now use of the `display` property on these elements, and also use a `::details-content` pseudo-element to style the part that expands and collapses. developer.chrome.com/blog/styling...

Hey everyone! I ended my #perfnow talk by asking you all to consider contributing to the broader #webperf community. And one project I called out was e18e.dev. They're trying to connect together people working on JS packages performance (example below). Please consider joining their discord!
