Walk netted excellent results. Still feeling decidedly meh... BUT I did pick up from the PO my contributor's copy of @russrad.bsky.social 's latest excellent offering. A must-buy for the opening essay alone. The BEST present for political junkies. Just a ripper edition. Congrats, Russ!

I have got to say that it* is all getting me down today and I think I need a walk in the sunshine KBYE *gestures to everything in the world but also smaller particular things like people writing nasty emails and just the exhausting daily slog and some personal stuff that is hard and painful

Further to the checkout donations conversation, this is an excellent idea:

Kirsty Webeck@kirstywebeck.bsky.social

Instead of the “would you like to round up and donate…” screen on the self serve checkouts, there should be a button you can push to drop the CEO into a tank of water.

An excellent post about the state of our nation and our mean, petty political discourse ⬇️

Let me tell you a story about the politics of Australia: Over the last 28 years generally, but over the last decade particularly, I've done a lot of politics outside of Australia. Last week, an organisation I work with called me in for a meeting mostly among people like me around the world /n

Very much looking forward to seeing this film at the Australian Cartoonist Association's annual get together this coming weekend

The Cathy Wilcox@cathywilcox.bsky.social

I’ve just previewed a film by Bill Banowsky called “Pat Oliphant - A Savage Art”, about the Australian political cartoonist and artist who moved to the US in the 50s to make his career. A terrific film which reminds us that we need fearless, sharp dissenters and truth tellers.

A reminder that these manipulative 'please donate to this charity via us 🥹' messages at the checkout create tax deductions for the supermarkets that are making all of us poorer. A truly charitable response: every time you see one, go home and give directly to the charity yourself.

She’s right. 🤷‍♀️ I can’t argue with any of it.

I would like to start a petition for cartoonists to put "caca de chien" in every cartoon until things improve around here.

You know you're living in an utterly broken, amoral, non-fit-for-purpose system when you see this headline and the first thing you think is "FINALLY! Maybe we won't get smashed with yet another interest rate rise."

The story below is what today's toon is about and honestly it's the kind of good news I think we all need to celebrate right about now

Margaret Mead told us that we should “Never doubt a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed it’s the only thing that ever has.”

JON STEWART: “So in the FUTURE we WILL use A.I. to cure diseases… but right now it’s mostly murder, surveillance, and surge pricing for the McRib — What a trade! I’m getting the sense you guys might be full of shit.”

Just wrote an actual physical letter to the ATO **via snail mail** after literal weeks trying to reach them by phone, being kept on hold for hours, then summarily hung up on. TAKE THAT AI, I guess

OpenAI must explain how they will stop their models from inappropriately accessing Australian data, the chair of the parliament’s committee on artificial intelligence has warned, ahead of federal inquiry hearings today to grill big tech companies on AI www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...

I don't think any world leaders follow me here, but if anyone who has their ear does, please tell them to listen to the Your Undivided Attention podcast so they can properly understand that the AI problem isn't just about stolen IP and data centres www.humanetech.com/podcast

gotta love total strangers taking a moment out of their day to tell you they think you suck

Not a bad idea, wish fewer people were competing with each other for the best wisecrack on that subject. (By the way, I find your SMH cartoons rather poor and far from the footsteps of those who have filled that role over the decades
