I wonder how rich someone would get selling a phone now that had the features of a phone from 2005. Push to voice-dial that was local and actually worked, set your own ringtones for free, no power "saving" meant to hide overpriced cheap internal hardware and bad code, etc.

If you are considering implementing AI in your project, first use the test: Did you decide on AI because a problem led you to it? If no, don't implement AI. You can replace "AI" with any other buzzword you were thinking of including.

I don't know why this needs to be said, but controls should not move while the user is expected to interact with them. That does nothing but cause misclicks/mistaps. And yet it's a constant UX fail on Chrome, Android, Windows, etc.

Area 51 is not testing an alien weather machine. I promise.

Tropical moisture surging into the Desert Southwest continues a dangerous flash flooding threat across central and eastern New Mexico and the TX/OK panhandles through Thursday morning. Slow-moving storms producing heavy rainfall can quickly lead to flooding across the desert terrain. weather.gov

The secret to success of "Move Fast and Break Things" is that it's always other people's things that get broken when that label is used. The jobs, equipment, injuries and death always are someone else's to bear. When the person moving fast breaks their own life, then it gets different labels.

I quit Pokemon Go a few years ago in protest over their false advertisement claiming a 30 day warning before making certain purchased items worthless that they violated and refused to make right. I stupidly picked it up again recently. Nothing has changed. Still criminals.

Every generation has a crisis, and every generation solves it. The question is how many people they hurt doing so. Given how often "laying off humans to embrace AI" is still showing up in the news even after we know it's not profitable doesn't leave me hopeful for my generation.

System update: A tenth circle of Hell is being added for software developers, marketing professionals, managers and others who force "Maybe Later" when it's clear the user is saying "No".

Arguing against "both sides" is not a winning strategy. You can argue all you like about the mechanism of why it's wrong or how the other side is evil, but you lose ground every time you make that argument. You don't get to be believed without effort.

And carelessly vomiting up a slew of claims is not effort. If you want to change anything, you have to reach the people you disagree with and care about them as human beings.

If your answer is EVER "I shouldn't have to" then just admit to yourself that you don't care enough to put in the effort. That phrase never means anything else.

Your company is not going to beat the biggest 3 mega corporations locking people into their ecosystem. Your only hope is to be the alternative to that. Don't try to lock customers into your ecosystem or you won't have customers.

Happy Independence Day!🇺🇸🎆 A prolonged, dangerous heat wave will persist through the Independence Day weekend across the Ohio Valley, Midwest, and Mid-Atlantic. 🥵 Clusters of severe thunderstorms will move across parts of the Allegheny Plateau into Mid Atlantic this Independence Day. ⛈️ weather.gov

We need to normalize having a conversation on the internet. Not a debate, not a research paper where everything is graded on having sources for trolls to ignore, not being "right". Just normal people talking casually.

Gotta admit, I'm underwhelmed by the Lego company. I've had a large number of parts missing from "pick a brick" orders, and now they've been "forgetting" I didn't agree to get mailings and re-subscribing me to them repeatedly after I unsubscribe.

Thanks to y’all we’ve been able to get life saving weather info to millions AND raise nearly $250k for storm victims over the past week. Thanks for sharing & caring!

Since ancient Egyptian writing doesn't include vowels, we don't know if the vowels are even close, but it's amazing what structures stay consistent over such long timescales. It makes me feel like there's value in the theories behind the reconstructed proto-languages.

Amazing. Ancient Egyptian versus Modern Egyptian Arabic. Video is in Egyptian Arabic but you'll get the gist of it. Some words haven't changed in 5,000 years. Via www.instagram.com/reel/DYKjGpA...

Writing is second only to health for the levels of uninvited, condescending, contradictory and harmful crap advice from people on the internet talking out their tailpipe.

"You're receiving this email because, even though you already unsubscribed twice, our marketing team thought it would be a great idea to try again." What marketing genius thinks doing exactly what customers don't want would make them want to pay more money?

Yes, there are blatantly evil monsters out there in human skin, but if you assume that as your default, you'll not only be wrong most of the time, there's a fairly high chance you'll be acting like one of them.

www.npr.org/2026/05/14/n... I had similar treatment in the 1980s. I can say from personal experience that this deeply affected me for the rest of my life in multiple ways. These aren't teachers, they're criminals who torture children, and should face prison for this.

Why is consistency so hard for doctors? When I have pain, "At your age this is normal." When I say my pain is normal for my age, "You're only (mid 40s)"

Creating a new marketing list and adding customers who opted out of all your other marketing can only ever get you fewer customers, never more. This is basic logic. Is a marketing degree just 4 years of repeating "throw everything at a wall and see what sticks"?

I propose from now on we rename what those outside America call "football" to "meterball". If you're going to give us crap about not using metric, at least be consistent. 😝

The difference between an algorithm and an allcraprhythm is that the algorithm serves the user's purposes and the allcraprhythm serves the purposes of the company exploiting the users. To tell which, see if it's on by default. And quietly back on weeks after you turned it off.
