Howard Ashman got his initial idea for "Little Shop of Horrors" while eating pistachios. He noticed the way the seeds cracked open and had the green pistachio kind of sticking out like a giant tongue. He went to work, writing the story and preparing sketches of what would become "Audrey."

In a meeting with a potential producer, one of them said "Oh, a Venus fly trap," when he saw the sketch of Audrey. "I didn't have a name to call it, but I like that," Ashman said. The producer gave him a weird look and said, "No, that's what this plant is called." Ashman had never seen one.

Now, obviously this story is complete fiction, but I've got a habit of twirling yarns to Wifey and she bought this one, hook, line and sinker. "Really!?" she said. "No, absolutely none of that is true." She flipped me the bird. It's the usual response to these situations and cracks me up.
