After a few years of being a landlord, I ended up selling since the rents did not cover the cost of ongoing maintenance, repairs, taxes, insurance, etc. My tenants were upset because they said I was such a good landlord. One cried. Then I overhead someone say “landlords are scummy.” I give up.

Walked up to the community centre for some spiritual wellness. I saw a piece of wood on a log that looked like a little dog (smack dab in the centre of the photo). Still feeling nervous about what fresh hell will hit the fan tomorrow morning.

My family came to Canada when I was an infant 65 years ago. Even though I am a Canadian citizen, I’m afraid to travel to the US because I have a non-wasp name. My son also is afraid to go there as he has tattoos (a wolf in the woods). Never did I ever expect to feel like this.

I’m having a holiday and visiting family in Costa Rica. Here’s the view on our way to a local soccer game. Judging by the motorcycle parking lot were probably more people in attendance than watched the inauguration. 😂

Visiting family in Costa Rica and I can’t get over all the beautiful flowers just growing wild. Okay there are also bugs. Big ones. But there seem to be as many flowers.

Went for a short hike yesterday to Myra Falls. I’ve moved back to Vancouver Island and despite visiting over the years, there are still so many places left to discover.

This day back in 2020. Quick shout out to the people who made it tolerable (plus my husband who is making dinner). Let’s remember those who didn’t make it.

Going to the airport in a couple of hours to pick up my son who is home for the holidays. On the one hand, so happy, but on the other feeling sorrow for the parents of the children killed in current and all school shootings for whom the holidays will never be the same.

We are well on our way to self sufficiency. Ok maybe not, but my husband ‘harvested’ potatoes he grew from ones he planted from left over super market potatoes that had sprouted in the cupboard. So proud of him. Stay tuned for other exiting things to do when you retire.

My biggest environmental vice is that in this retirement year I’ve had to fly more than in all my previous years put together. I don’t know how many more trips I have left, but this view, from my window seat of the city below me, always makes me realize how many of us there are.

Went on the first helicopter ride of my life from Nanaimo to Vancouver. I was able to take this photo of Lions Gate Bridge. I also saw a humpback whale😊

You are up to date.
