These days I read & write haiku with the amazing BlueSky community. I also do research at the hybrid intersection of HCI, AI, critical computing, and social justice. Co-chair of ACM SIGCHI CARES. Member of Fempower.tech, AccessSIGCHI.
I love how he uses the great rivers of four nations to convey the history & spirit of African people.
He describes a history that stretches back to the dawn of civilisation
In the final line his soul takes on the spirit & endurance of these great rivers

I doubt not whence I came, nor whither go:
The field that fed me waits to take me in;
My bones are but the stones the furrows show,
And where I end, the green doth first begin.

Thou formed'st me of clay, and Irish clay,
Which, when I wander, calls me by my name;
No sea can sunder what the rains did lay,
Nor distance cool the soil’s remembered flame.

Níl amhras orm: is mise an talamh, is é an talamh mé.
Ritheann a aibhneacha trí mo chroí mar bhóithre fada.

I have no doubt: I am the earth, and it is me.
Its rivers run the long roads of my heart.

Batter my green hills, Lord, with thy slow rain,
That thorn and stone may quake, then rise made new;
For bog and strand, though drowned, are born again,
And heather dies that heaven may bloom anew.
So wrecked, the lark more sweetly climbs the sky;
Thus nature, broken by thee, learns to fly.

Once were. Now not.
I'm writing alt-text in this post, as part of my thinking with this photo.
Photo is of an oak twig, showing three empty cup-like scaly capsules that once held acorns. The setting sun casts shadows behind the twig, reminding us that even this view will soon be lost to darkness.
Sometimes, it's the next generation that are most ready to embrace change. Here, the seeds of next year's red maple have turned the brightest shades of red, amidst still-green maple leaves.
I hope you find the changes that you wish for.
"Then I bounded across the fields; my spirit often seemed to ride upon the winds, and to mingle in joyful sympathy with the ambient air."
-Mary Shelley
