New paper alert! Michal Dibus and team show tensin-1 forms reversible condensates that act as reservoirs for adhesion proteins, tuning adhesion turnover and cell migration - a cool new role for phase separation in cell adhesion dynamics! Congratulations to the team 🎉! Paper here: bit.ly/4y9E8Xr

bit.lyAdhesion-derived condensates control component availability to regulate adhesion dynamics - Nature CommunicationsIntegrin adhesions allow dynamic cell-matrix interactions to regulate cell behaviour. Here, the authors reveal that tensin 1, a multidomain adaptor protein, forms condensates in cells that act as reve...

1/5 🎉 Finally, the results of my main postdoctoral project are out in @natcomms.nature.com! Adhesion-derived condensates control component availability to regulate adhesion dynamics bit.ly/4y9E8Xr Also excited to see the paper highlighted in Nat Comms Editors’ Highlights 🥳 bit.ly/44n4O9i

4/5 - stress-mediated phosphorylation controls TNS1 condensate assembly and regulates adhesion phenotype - we also identified close association of TNS1 condensates with P-bodies

3/5 - TNS1 phase separation is driven by its intrinsically disordered region (IDR) - IDR sequence grammar governs the biophysical properties of TNS1 condensates, and the TNS1 IDR regulates adhesion dynamics, cell migration and invasion

2/5 We studied phase separation of the key adhesion adaptor protein tensin1 (TNS1). We show that: - TNS1 forms condensates that act as reversible reservoirs for adhesion proteins - Endogenous TNS1 condensates form upon acute adhesion disassembly and in response to limited integrin–ECM engagement

Proud to be part of this cool story by @follainga.bsky.social, led by @guijacquemet.bsky.social and @johannaivaska.bsky.social. Go and have a look!

Fresh out of @ivaskalab.bsky.social on EPLINs' roles in integrin trafficking! Go have a look! 🎉

Paulina Morlay@drpaulinamoreno.bsky.social

Very happy to share Niklas Jäntti's PhD work on EPLIN /LIMA1 isoforms (α/β) in breast cancer (spoiler: both have opposing roles in integrin traffic, cell migration & clinical outcome). This might explain why EPLIN sometimes has been reported as pro- and sometimes as anti-tumorigenic: bit.ly/3Iwjtau

Grateful for the poster prize awarded by @febsopenbio.bsky.social at the #FEBS2025 congress! It was a pleasure to meet so many inspiring people and discuss some great science! @ivaskalab.bsky.social

We are very proud to announce @johannaivaska.bsky.social as the recipient of the Biennial Finnish Science Award, given by the Finnish Ministry of Education & Culture. Johanna was described as a distinguished researcher with pioneering work in cell biology. Warmest congrats from all of us, boss!

We show that under low ahesion conditions Tensin 1 forms endogenous condensates to store inactive adhesion components. These can be released upon stress-mediated Tensin 1 phosphorylation to regulate adhesion dynamics.
