There seems to be a divide among people with respect to the art of known characters in #MTGxTRK the new Star Trek set for #mtg. Having grown up with TOS on reruns and remembering when TNG came out, I like seeing the characters I know brought to a game I enjoy, as I remember them. 🧵

And for some I would say this is an appropriate send-off. Some of these actors are no longer with us - James Doohan, Walter Koenig, Majel Barrett, for example - and this tends to show them in ways I remember them in the various series. So for me this is more emotional than "just another set". 🧵

I guess for many, the question about Universes Beyond is: do you have any feelings/attachment to these characters or series, or is it "just another property" to you? For me, Star Trek was also family time around something we all enjoyed. Spongebob OTOH is "it exists." Just my two Sarpadian coppers.

4/5 ARTIFACT STUFF: Vandalblast: Affinity (and others) gets a solid tool against Affinity (and others). One-sided Shatterstorm if overloaded, which is rare in Pauper. Soul-Guide Lantern: Relic of Progenitus with a tweak. Eating something from the grave on ETB is nice. Does that make it better?

5/5 CREATURES THAT EAT CREATURES: Gigantosaurus: Just a Big Dumb Green Creature™. Can eat Ulamog's Crusher & Eldrazi Devastator. Competes with cascaders, Monarch, etc. Baleful Strix: Cantrip creature that dies easy but likely takes out something bigger in the process. Seems ok. (™ not confirmed)

2/5 THE HISTORICAL DOWNSHIFTS: Serra Angel: Probably most notable for being a large cost-efficient flyer. Comparable to Murmuring Mystic for control strategies. Sengir Vampire: A bigger deal IMO than Serra. Can potentially outgrow Tolarian Terror. Also, if this can get a Crypt Rats-like ability...

3/5 DIMIR SAYS NO: An Offer You Can't Refuse: Negate at a discount. Probably best on your own (uncountable?) spells for mana (a la Dark Ritual). Probably not worth it? Cut Down: Black has lots of efficient removal. Just another one for the early game. Green has a counter to it in Giant Growth!
