If you are a lost time traveler, the situation in Russia is probably the worst way to pinpoint your place: Russia, trapped in a losing war of imperial ambition by a corrupt authoritarian leader, is currently suffering a plague outbreak. Could be any point in the last 600 years.

I have no idea what this game was, but since the name sounds like "Cluedo", I assume you're trying to work out where and with what and whom an orgy took place in the mansion.

If one of these "AI" companies could build a robot that could pick tomatoes, that could measurably improve human welfare. But they never target the "actually awful job for a human to do" sectors.

Reminds of a story, that when Zuckerberg got into watch collecting, he just ordered his staff to buy the 10 most expensive watches, and seriously, that's not how hobbies work. Just go enjoy a thing.

Just think, we've been bothering with all this "science" and "studies" when we could just be eating rocks when we're sick!

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Republican Minnesota state auditor candidate Scott Jensen: "I think we have ignored in western medicine the potential benefits of discoveries made centuries ago. The notion of electromagnetic powers, of minerals, and rocks, and things like that, that could have curative capabilities we've ignored."

Out of curiosity, have they calculated how much it costs the state to subsidise car drivering? All the roads, parking where interesting stuff could be, free parking, traffic enforcement, health problems caused by cars, etc. What is that costing?

RTÉ News@news.rte.ie

Falling revenue and rising costs have created a deficit of more than €800m in funding for public transport services, an Oireachtas committee has heard

Okay, "car drivering" was clearly a typo, but I kind of like it. And it's saved itself to my autocorrect, so that's how I'll refer to car use from now on.

I hate to tell you, but humans are closer to extinction than ever* *in the sense that humans will at some point in the future be extinct, and every second brings us closer to that moment. Nothing to do with AI, just the relentless march of time.

I spend way too much time telling my various devices *not* to do stuff. Don't sync, don't connect, don't suggest, just sit there until I want to do something. I'll let you know.

"A car ran the light at the crossing right in front of me. I'm not against cars, but the automobile community has to deal with these irresponsible drivers." No one writes posts like this. It's only ever about cyclists, or scooter users.

The War on Cars@thewaroncars.bsky.social

What is this "irresponsible cycling community" and who issues the membership cards? Is there a community of irresponsible drivers? No one is disputing that it's annoying and sometimes dangerous for a cyclist to ride on a sidewalk. What people are taking issue with is collective blame.

In addition to everything else, Halton came up with the absolute worst way to cut cake. I just want to add this to his crimes: oldschoolpastry.pastrysampler.com/cutting-a-ca...

OG eugenicist Francis Galton should be a cautionary tale but instead I fear we will soon have The Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Francis Galton Centers for Disease Control and Eugenics. Have a listen to see how history is rhyming its ass off in the area of eugenics and to learn about “cocaine science”.

This might be long shot, but has The Muppets Studio tried explaining the premise to Disney execs with puppets?

DiscussingFilm@discussingfilm.net

There are currently no active conversations for a full ‘MUPPET SHOW’ series revival. Disney, The Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures have had difficulties with deciding on a premise for the series that they can all agree on. (Source: Deadline)

And yet, I would still rank Michael O'Leary as one of the less harmful rich people in the world. At least he's not trying to wreck whole countries. Just arguing that he did you a favour letting you almost fall out of one of his planes.

If you must copy bad guy uniforms, this one is so much cooler. Farscape had the best battle dresses.

derek guy@dieworkwear.bsky.social

this is the kind of design costume designers make to tell you who are the bad guys in a space movie

Does Oz sell a supplement that removes any sense of self awareness? Because it seems to be shockingly effective.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Dr Oz: "These charlatans are shockingly effective at being grifters ... we have normalized fraud. We have normalized stealing from the poor"

I get up between 5 and 6 every morning because that's when the kids wake up. And I can only work part-time because we can't get childcare for our youngest. Do I "deserve" help?

RTÉ News@news.rte.ie

Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Simon Harris has said this year's Budget will support people "who get up early every morning and go to work".

Man, someone had a tight deadline and weekend plans.

I picked up a copy of the collected letters of JRR Tolkien for reasons, and this is the most bullshit table of contents I've ever seen. I'm actively angry that it exists

Who is this even aimed at, 12 year olds flying to business meetings?

“Bad news for publisher HarperCollins: The book-buying subset of MrBeast fans appears to be vanishingly small. Two people close to the project say The Most Dangerous Games is on track to be a historic bomb…”

They come pre-started, and God help you if you turn them off.

Sean Duffy: "You know the stop/start button on your car? I hate that thing. Thank you Lee Zeldin! He's gotten rid of it and the first cars without the stop/start button are rolling off the line."

Tim Curry invites a number of strangers to a very awkward dinner party in 1950s New England.

Neill Cameron@neillcameron.bsky.social

Make your favorite film sound as boring as possible without giving away the title: Humphrey Bogart reluctantly gets involved in the admin regarding an associate’s immigration issues.

Tim Curry in Muppet Treasure Island is honestly more Muppet than man, it's an amazing performance by a man who didn't mind looking silly.

Danielle Ryan (Lestat Era)@danirat.bsky.social

I think another lesson to take from the loss of both Dolly and Tim Curry is that neither of them took themselves seriously but they took the work dead serious that's the most important thing pour all of yourself into the craft but have fun and don't get an ego.

I don't know, we tolerate it from the auto industry.

Thor Benson@thorbenson.bsky.social

"Sorry, my product randomly breaks the law sometimes" is not something we would tolerate from other industries. Maybe we shouldn't tolerate it with AI

Owl is the most important character in Winnie the Pooh, because he teaches little kids the vital skill of identifying someone who thinks they're smart, but actually just knows big words. Recent adaptations of Pooh often leave Owl out entirely. Coincidence? #LowStakesConspriacy

10 authors by whom I've read at least 5 books: Terry Pratchett Agatha Christie Dorothy Sayers Louise McMaster Bujold Tamora Pierce Mary Roach Carola Dunn Kerry Greenwood Elizabeth Moon Bill Bryson I feel Mo Willems deserves a mention, it's a rare day we don't read a Pigeon book in this house.
