Came to Bsky for good info & discussion..and it was that way. Sadly, i'm seeing parts of Bluesky degenerating to the same nasty tactics i see on X/Twitter.

I came to Bluesky expecting a different experience than i found on Musk's verion of Twitter. In teneral terms Bsky was represented as a friendlier, more open platform. I signed up before it went live and joined early on. One of the great things here were "Starter Packs". Great idea, and Bsky has..

..here is huge. I checked for myself and found 25 lists, one at least who i've already reported to Bsky Moderators (without response) for making memes specifially to attack me. This is defintly not what i expected here. Sure spirited discussion but not organized campaingns against other users.

So for right now, if you're still reading, are the folks who taken it upon themselves to, in effect, moderate Bsky, be a human algorithim to throttle truly open discussion. Here goes. (PS If i Bsky Moderation nasty-gram or worsel, well at least they noticed someone things this is a problem

anti-semites, bigots, bots and other kinds of name-calling i left Musk's X over. The issue i see is that, beside potentially libelous, is that it encourages users to openly discriminate against a group of users and cause other who've never encountered them to join the block or essentially boycott.

You could argue all's fair, but to my mind this is not what Bsky was intially meant to be. This process has or will allow ONE user to openly wage campaigns against almost anyone or any group by assuming someone using the list won't verify any on it as being "bad". The potential for malicious use..

..been adding new features every since. But here's one you may not have heard about. I'm not sure if this was intended, or just someone figuring out how to re-purpose Starter Packs. That feature is the ability for any user to create a list..of people they suggest you block. I'm not sure Bsky..

..intended this, but they do allow it apparently. Now people have and should be able to block someone (as i do sometimes) but it's done INDIVIDUALLY. That's not what's happening here. Lists are created, often labeling the users listed in them by identifying them as, among other things,

..using Bluesky's Starter Pack function to orchestrate efforts to block users, even users that you've had no interaction with. Conspiracy stuff? Hm, maybe, maybe not but suspect most here never knew this could happen. I think Bluesky should be aware of this, what it think, ...

...is (within the rules) misuse of Starter Lists. it was supposed to be a freindly place by design. But, maybe not. So...do what you want but here's a screen shot of what i found...with redactions. It's not that people block who they don't like, it's that some are ORGANIZING it

What's clear now is that some people use Bluesky's Starter Pack function to create lists of people who, for various reasons, are to be blocked. Presumably for opinions/comments they don't like. I suppose that's fair but it does seem like a perversion of what Bluesky is about.

It's ok, if you don't like me...block me. It's ok, i'll be fine. If you think i've broken TOS here, report me to a moderator. I've been a moderator myself, its part of the job to deal with rule-breakers. and I'm fine with that. What i didn't expect is organized campaigns...

...that i am on. The reason for this was following a post i made a repsondent posted a message, perhaps meaning to send a DM state "i found another for your list". The thread was one concern Progressive politics & priorities. Anyway two days later i get a bunch of blocks.
