Hoping to do some #astronomy in New Zealand. Unfortunately the order for my Dwarf3 places in September did not arrive in time! Still, if we get clear skies going to get some Milky Way shots and do a bit of upside down visual!

Last day at work today ahead of our trip to #newzealand. Flying out of #heathrow tomorrow with #cathaypacific - a first for me travelling with that airline! #traveladventure

Got a Dwarf3 robotic telescope thing on order (it’s been on order for ages). Hoping it gets here before we leave. Would love to get some images of the southern skies #dwarf3

Debating on whether to get a new camera… quite fancy the Fuji XT-50 - thinking of trading in my Fuji X100F, a Nikon D7200 and some Nikon glass… want something light & portable. Have loved the X100F but fancy a bit more reach with a zoom lens…

*Really* pleased with this image from our #solarcan. Positioned on the front of the house from mid summer’s day to mid winter’s day 2023. It shows the path of the sun across the sky throughout those 6 months. #solargraphy

M82 images using an #itelescope scope in Utah. Processed in Wiltshire using PixInsight. Some stars a bit wonky (over processed) but pleased with overall result. Will have another go at processing when I can 🔭

Well the install went well - not tried it working yet…but what the fresh sort of hell is this? Looking down through the visual back on to the (corrector plate??) looks like some sort of seed or spider or something… 🔭

I’ve got a soft swab used for cleaning camera sensors (disposable), but it looks like it might be on the inside! How the hell do I clean that off? (Or is it a case of better to leave it) 🔭

Managed to install Windows onto an older MacBook Pro last night using bootcamp. Want to try some of the windows only astronomy software like autostakkert registax and NiNA…. Another rabbit hole to go down! :-) 🔭

ZWO electronic focus thingy should be arriving today. What’s the chances of me having a. Time to fit it to my C8Edge today, and b. Clear skies to try it out tonight….. 🔭

Forgot to add a 🔭!

Ok now I’ve loaded my data from yesterday into Pixinsight LOADS to learn! Have bitten the bullet and ordered an electronic focuser to take one other stress away (poor credit card). Need to work on better polar alignment and possibly an OAG as I’m using a C8…

Oh and SOMETHING needs a damn good clean in my image train. I’m guessing camera sensor…. (Although I can see the purchase of a dedicated Astro camera happening soon!)

First time tonight with the ASIAIR that everything has gone well! Couple of minor setup niggles that I need to look at in the daylight, but the software has performed well and it seems to work with my Nikon D7200 at last! 🔭

Pop-up Astronomy on Bath Abbey this evening by @bathastronomers.org.uk for over 65 people on the Tower tour. Night sky newbies, young and old, got to see the planet that put Bath on the map, Uranus. Then the majesty of Jupiter and Saturn. A tour of the stars before finishing with the Moon. Amazing.

Had such a frustrating Astro session earlier this week - one of the rare clear evenings of late - just couldn’t get anything to work. Planning on doing some diagnosis this weekend along with trying new power supply and some new usb 3 cables. Why is this hobby so complicated?! 🔭

🔭 Beautifully clear evening near Salisbury, Wiltshire UK last night, but needing to get up at 0430 for work yesterday morning meant tiredness won over doing some observing. How long til retirement?!

Thank you to staff at Salisbury Cathedral School for allowing Bath Astronomers to visit with telescopes and a planetarium this evening to help inspire the students who've just done Space in Yr5. The skies were clear, and the planers and stars shone brightly. Smashing night and hot chocolate too!

Saw a very vivid starlink train overhead Paignton in south west England last night. Always mixed feelings as it’s an incredible sight with amazing technology underpinning both the launch and the system itself, but also destroying our view of the night sky 🔭

In my search for a small refractor I’m considering a petzval design as my understanding is you doing have to worry about flateners or spacers. What are the disadvantages? 🔭
