Finally, while I have your attention: If you’d like to support my work, I’d appreciate if you sign up for my mailing list so I can be a little less dependent on all these platforms. I only use it 2-3x a year to share my favorite projects. Hope to have more cool stuff soon: mitchgoldich.substack.com

mitchgoldich.substack.comMitch Goldich’s mailing list | Mitch Goldich 🐙 | SubstackHi, it’s Mitch. Writer and editor for Sports Illustrated, octopus inventor, etc. This is a mailing list, not a newsletter... big difference! Just a way to occasionally update people about the projects...

The Vikings are the final undefeated team in the league. I don’t even think you could bet them to be the last undefeated team before the season in most major books. I believe “Field” would have been the winning bet.

It was a difficult week, but I managed to bookmark like 30 reviews/articles/interviews without any major spoilers. Phone off for the next 3 hours. If you have any essential YCSE links, feel free to drop more below.

The Sixers’ home opener is on ESPN and instead of showing LeBron’s first home crowd intro and the bell ringer, they showed a pre-taped segment of Tracy Morgan talking about the Knicks

I promise I won’t spend the whole season complaining about how much attention the Knicks get. (I’ve been good since June!) And the funny thing is ESPN will probably talk about the Sixers *more* than I want this season. But I think a lot of fans missed what they tuned in for.

True story: I wrote like 2/3 of an essay about the start of the LeBron era and the Process and this graphic, and then I just… decided to keep it to myself. Maybe if they win the title.

There’s some renewed interest in The Process, so here’s my timeline refresher. The Sixers are currently in what I call late-stage Process. It doesn’t end until Embiid is gone. Welcome LeBron. It’s been a journey.

The way Nantz says “Really?” Makes it sound like he truly didn’t expect to be asked.

Awful Announcing@awfulannouncing.bsky.social

Jim Nantz trying to "Peanut Punch" a football out of J.J. Watt's hands is incredible live television. 🏈🥊🎙️😂

Imagine having an NFL football on your mantle, and a friend comes over and asks where it’s from, and you say Dalton Kincaid punted it into the crowd before a TD was wiped away by a holding penalty.

They should really make OT 15 minutes again now that they guarantee both teams possession. Feels like there are too many games where the clock becomes too big a factor on the second possession. The point of guaranteeing possession should be to make the coin toss less important.

This is a great story from Breer with input from head coaches on clock management ⤵️

‘It is f---ing chaos’ @albert-breer.bsky.social talks to current and former head coaches about how teams prepare for clock-management situations and what it’s really like when the clock is ticking ⏱️ www.si.com/nfl/chaos-nf...

It’s not just the uniforms themselves making the aesthetics so good tonight. Both teams, plus the field paint, the in-stadium signage around the field, the TV graphics… good collaboration all around.

More than just the announcement of a newsletter, this is also a nice essay on the writing process and the importance of reading and writing in our society.

Rejoice, NBA fans: The Lowe Post is back -- as a newsletter! Yes, @zachlowenba.bsky.social is actually typing words again. On a keyboard. For you to read. It's glorious. Details:

I thought they told us a few years ago that they have the sideline camera angle in every stadium. Not sure why we couldn’t see it on the pivotal play in a major Seahawks-49ers game. Oh well!

Not only does Ka’imi Fairbairn have four field goals in the first half, but he has the small straight with kicks in the 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s. Shout out to my Yahtzee heads.
