“Sober but social” -my new tagline It will still be tv, movie and book reviews, mixed with my odd views on other stuff along the way. And of course there will be the odd spelling mistake.

Cinema Trip 136 in 2026 Klara and the Sun ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 7/10 IMDb 3.5 Letterboxd This was a genuinely cute little oddity of a film, yes not all the beats land. But it’s full of heart, looks fab and Ortega is amazing.

Also I to point out I can’t count as I actually 136 trips last year at the cinema and kept saying 132 so though I had beat my intended target last week! Well I haven’t but will hit it tomorrow.

Cinema trip 135 in 2026 Scream At 30, not sure how it’s that old, I still love it dearly. Second time on the big screen now, as I caught for its 25th too.

Crystal Lake ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 7.10 IMDb Cardellini is amazing, as you’d expect. It takes some interesting turns, which don’t all fully work. It has nice nods to the franchise, deaths, costumes and so on. Overall the production looks great. Not sure what they could do for a further season, but I’d return.

I remember now why I’ve not rewatched Halloween Kills since the cinema…it’s a spattering of okay moments wrapped in a load more shit moments.

Cinema trip 134 in 2026 Wildwood ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 10/10 IMDb 5 Letterboxd Wow! Honestly this film engrossed me from the start, it’s dark and twisted world is a wonder to be hold. And the handmade animation is phenomenal a pure visual treat for the eyes. There’s genuinely so much to take in.

I felt okay it’s a 12A, harsh! But it does earn it, it’s violent and occasionally brutal, but it’s daring and refreshing to see. But it also has lighter moments which make you smile. The voice cast are spot on too. Think I’ve found my movie of the year.

Good job Mel C and the company I was with was amazing tonight. Because the awful journey there and back and the car park fiasco would have tainted it.

Cinema Trip 133 in 2026 The Others (25th Anniversary) Still a brilliant film for me, I like build up and the rug pulls. The use of noise over, flashy visuals, practical and no real CGI. Plus Kidman is great in the mixture of ghost story/melodrama.

Cinema Trip 131 in 2026 Whalefall ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 8/10 IMDb 4 Letterboxd Tense, and nicely paced, together with a heartfelt fractured father/son story. Abram’s is brilliant as are the effects. It is a one of kind film in all aspects.

Cinema Trip 130 in 2026 Street Fighter ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/10 IMDb 2.5 Letterboxd Dump camp popcorn movie, that just scrapes by for me on its look and nods to the game. The plot if there is one is chaotic, the fights at times feel muted, and oddly edited so you get taken out of the action. The that ending 🤔

Cinema Trip 129 in 2026 Hades Town ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The music, the sets, the stage and staging, then there’s the cast, all rolled into one, it gives you one hell of a mesmerising experience.

Cinema trip 128 in 2026 Other Mommy ⭐️⭐️ 4/10 IMDb 2 Letterboxd Chock full of ideas but sadly not many land due to the clunky script and over reliance on not so good CGI. It all feels like it’s almost aimed at a more teen audience. Nice too see Karen Allen in a film

Chastain is quite cold for the most part as the mom, and creep as the mommy. Deffo could have been better, but not as bad as I was expecting.

Cinema Trip 127 in 2026 The Social Reckoning ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 7/10 IMDb 3.5 Letterboxd Yes it’s missing Fincher’s eye, but on saying that Sorkin’s script and direction are solid. The cast are all fantastic and I really enjoyed this.

Cinema trip 126 in 2026 The Uprising ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 8/10 IMDb 4 Letterboxd Greengrass delivers here, the film is restless and never lets up. The cast are all great, and barring a couple of CGI backdrops the film itself looks great too.

Cinema Trip 125 in 2026 The Craft (30th Anniversary) Teen favourite on the big screen, loved it! Although it was now an 18 due to suicide references (which are minimal really). 🤔

Cinema trip 124 in 2026 Train to Busan 10th Anniversary ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 8/10 IMDb 4.5 Letterboxd A superbly paced zombie film, with some neat ideas, set pieces and tension. It just missed scraping a 5 star because I felt some character choices seemed a little daft.

Cinema trip 123 in 2026 Casino Royale 20th Anniversary While it’s still a little long, it’s still one of the best Bond movies.

Cinema Trip 122 in 2026 Verity ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/10 IMDb 2.5 Letterboxd It looks pretty, and the cast are great. And for that reason it got an extra star than the book. The characters are not all as unlikeable on screen as they were on the page. It’s a slow buildup and like the book the ending feels rushed

Feeling incredibly meh today! Anniversary of a friends passing, holiday blues, the thought of work tomorrow, topping the long list… So before I go hide in the cinema for the evening, I’ve had a bit of rejig of some of my stuff. I’ll snap out of it, just trying to not beat myself up until I do.

Starve Acre ⭐️⭐️ 4/10 IMDb 2 Letterboxd The potential is there and I’m sure the book handles it better. Smith and Clark give brilliant performances, but it’s too slow and no creepy enough to be effective for me.
