This morning, I submitted an article I'm so excited about that I already started refreshing the journal's submission portal to see if any progress has been made 😂

Seven (?) years in the making, submitted to my editors yesterday. 624 pages, covering almost 400 texts but 100 or so pages over my page limit. Happy to leave this in the hands of the editors for a while and move on to something else (or just get more sleep). My thanks to all who helped along the way

Kimberley Fowler describes her recent work with a team of scholars exploring the very fragmentary Codex H (Paul’s 6th century letters) in our Bible and Beyond Substack “Scholar Research Update.” What a fascinating story hearing what they’ve accomplished! bibleandbeyond.substack.com/p/kimberley-...

Dr. Josh Mugler, curator of Eastern Christian & Islamic manuscripts at HMML, presents this week at the World Congress of Syriac Studies / Conference of Christian Arabic Studies in Romania. Details: https://bit.ly/3PuXLHS Josh's topic: "Manuscript Witnesses to the Assyrian and Armenian Genocides."

Why Arabic matters in biblical studies? Moshe bar Kepha was one of the most prominent Syriac-speaking writers of all time. His valuable commentary on Matthew incorporates the whole Gospel text in lemmata. It survives in 3 witnesses: BL Add MS 17274, Mardin 101, and one in Arabic: Vat.ar.453 (1/4)

which is not the Diatessaron. And its readings are unlike any of the known Syriac versions. The commentary itself preserves important material from the Diatessaron. Arabic was the language of the vast region that covers syriac, coptic, melkite (greek) and other churches. (3/4)

Christians used it as their first language, and stored all their treasures they inherited from their older languages in it. The more I read Arabic texts, the better I learn about the lost contexts of many of our GREEK, Syriac and Coptic versions. (4/4) #UnGos

After inspecting the three (the first and third in London and the Vatican, while the second is on VHMML) I noted that the Syriac ones are incomplete and damaged. The Arabic one has the complete passion narrative which shows a unique Gospel text that incorporates an unknown Gospel harmony (2/4)
