Cell phones are beyond a necessity in Mpls and other areas occupied by ICE. By all means record, stream and upload videos of their crimes. However, we can't rely on Apple, Google and others to keep that evidence, which will be crucial later. Back videos up in multiple places. We can't forget.

My wife and I voted today. It was spontaneous. “We’ve got some time. Let’s get it done.” No harassment. No lines. We were done in about 5 minutes. Made our choices, had our ballot scanned, got the stickers. This is the way it’s supposed to be.

Why do I hate Microsoft? Let me present the latest exhibit: Using a 8Gb M1 MBA, when I need to edit my resume, MS Word automatically forces an update check before I can do anything. Every @#$! time, this happens. My system locks up, because it sucks up RAM. Yes, I'm switching to LibreOffice.

I've tried disabling the Auto Update "feature", but Office insists on running it. Don't tell me to upgrade, because I'm between jobs. Hence, I'm updating my resume several times per day. Don't tell me to use Pages; I've tried it, and I just don't like it.

We accept your terms. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Steve Bannon issues warning to voters if they vote for Democrats in the midterms: “I think you’ll see Bobby Kennedy impeached, I’ll think you see Pete Hegseth impeached. I think you’ll see subpoenas flying every day. They will look to destroy Trump, and we’ll be bogged down for two years.”

“ICE never left. Things became less public, became less of a spectacle, but immigrants are still being targeted and persecuted...and from rumors I'm hearing, things I've seen, I suspect that they're about to amp up again.” 1/

mprnews.orgCatch, release, catch: Inside ICE's new 'farce' tacticMultiple immigration detainees in Minnesota have been ordered released by federal judges only for them to be immediately re-detained by immigration officers at the doors of the Whipple Federal buildin...

Things will probably ramp up over the next four weeks, for intimidation. Afterwards, things will stay bad (or get worse) for retribution. 2026 started awful, and will end the same way. 2/

It's possible for two seemingly opposite things to be true at the same time. For example, closing in on month 18 of a job search, I found an opening in an organization I really would like to work at, and this same org is really bad at interviewing people. 1/

On one hand: * Great compensation * Perfect skills set match * I believe in the mission On the other, * First interview is with a six-person panel * No attempt at rapport. No smiles, no humor, nothin' * Everyone looks like they are working on something else, or would rather be not be there. 2/

I just turned upper-mid-50s, and I've been doing home repairs for decades now. I'm not Bob Vila, but I'm not afraid to tackle a lot of projects. I thought I knew what to do. Today, I learned from a master.

“Commonality“=The most boring white Western European existence imaginable. And so, so, soooo close…

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

JD Vance: "When you have people who say 'my ethnic group deserves something, and yours doesn't,' or 'that ethnic group is good and this other ethnic group is bad,' that is how you erode the very foundations of commonality."

I've been toying with the idea of self-hosting a lot of services. Email isn't one of them. However, I *can* host everything else that has caused me to sign up for the 2Tb plan at Google. Photos, documents, spreadsheets, files, etc. And this will be a big reason why I will go to all that effort.

It’s absolutely unjust that she passed before he did, but I’m glad that she’s in a place where he isn’t. (If you need a proper noun to understand that sentence, then I have nothing to say to you.)

I love Humble Bundle. The vast portion of my locally-hosted ebook library is from them, and I'll happily support charities. However, if you're going to buy ebooks about living OTG, you mind want to print them. That, or tackle the solar power projects first.

"Children's prison" is a phrase that should not exist.

Congressman Greg Casar@repcasar.bsky.social

ICE just arrested a 5-year-old on his way to a soccer game in Austin. His name is Liam, just like the little boy from Minnesota. He should be in kindergarten this week. Instead he's in a trailer prison in the desert. Release Liam. Release these kids. Close the Dilley children’s prison.

I kept finding typos in my last post, so I repeatedly clicked cancel/edit/post. About the third time, Bluesky stopped responding. After I checked on my phone, DownDetector reported that Bluesky was down. Sorry, it was me. I broke BlueSky. I'm why we can't have nice things.

I love Wordle. Played it daily since Covid. I prefer hard mode, and have the board game. Still, sometime I wish that there was an "I Give Up" button. A button labeled "It's 10:30pm and we both know that I'm never going to figure this out, so let's just be honest. I need to sleep." is bad UI.

My time in between jobs is closing in on the 18-month mark. I’ve applied to TR a few tones, and got a couple of interviews. I’m suddenly glad that it didn’t work out, so that I don’t have to be ashamed of where I work.

Robert Reich@rbreich.bsky.social

Thomson Reuters, which owns news agency Reuters, has signed a $125M deal giving ICE access to its databases of personal data. USA Today has partnered with Palantir to gain "actionable intelligence" on its audiences. The media should be opponents of Trump's police state — not collaborators.

I can see where these would be a great crime-fighting tool. However... Was there any public notice or time for comment before implementation? Just because protections are in place now, does not mean they always will be. And finally, assume that the tech will be misused.

kstp.comFlock cameras across Minnesota are being vandalized in response to data privacy concernsAuthorities in the metro and across Minnesota say they’re seeing an uptick in damage to license-reading cameras, especially Flock cameras.

TMW, after hearing from a recruiter that "they will definitely get back you by end of week" and then "definitely on Monday", you see in your network updates that they just accepted a new position. I guess that's my answer.

After 18+ months in a job search, my BS meter is well tuned The company seems legit(ish). However, * Cold messages almost never result in a job (except my last job) * No picture in his profile * 15 years out of college, and he still refers to men as "studs"? Could be a typo, but probably not 1/

Could this be someone who is trying to sound American? Possibly. At this point, I'm willing to give them about 15m of my time, and that's not as much as I spent on this post. 2/

Job rejection in 90 minutes. Gotta be some kind of record. Req's matched & I had friends who have been at the company for 5+ years. It was a canned response. I get it. However, I question them using the phrase "After careful consideration". My wife takes longer to look at restaurant menus.

Very satisfying DnD adventure tonight. The party was having trouble with a young-ish dragon. The dice just weren't working. On turn #3, I polymorphed it into a sloth. Then we fed it to a Bag of Devouring. Every time someone mentioned killing a dragon, they were corrected: we killed a *sloth*.

I was in college when Animaniacs first aired. I enjoyed it as a fill-in for classic Bugs Bunny/Daffy Duck cartoons, some characters more than others. One that I didn't get at the time was Katie Ka-Boom. Now that I have a daughter who is 11-going-on-15...I see it now.

I make it a point to tell my daughter that I’m proud of her, especially when she does something kind or brave.

It is time once again to discuss the Most Dad Things we have done in the past year. A couple of reminders: - gender is a social construct, anyone can do Dad Things - you need not be a parent to do a Dad Thing - the definition of a Dad Thing is entirely subjective and maybe made up I’ll go first:

I really couldn't care less about UFC. It's barbaric, and makes society poorer as a whole. However, I can't let go of the image below. I want Donald Trump to have that same dejected posture for the rest of his life.

npr.orgUFC boss Dana White says 'never again' to another White House fight nightThe headaches over weather concerns in the outdoors show, the logistics of construction of the cage and staging events at federal landmarks and the soaring cost made Freedom 250 a one-off.
