People talk completely seriously about every paragraph or even line in a piece of writing "serving a purpose" or whatever, but I've never heard someone say "This brushstroke isn't really carrying its weight..."

I’m definitely not going to say porn doesn’t have its problems, but I frequently see people on reddit talk about porn like its satanic (derogatory). This puritanical shift in culture, particularly among the younger generation, is really worrying to me.

The solution is obviously "don't look at Instagram," but it's disgusting how much of the content and full profiles there are just AI now. Not uncommon to see the exact same content with changed faces etc. in the same feed, like two posts away from each other.

The Rays are an absolute useless baseball team. They're getting dismantled this series.

Sustaining psychic damage reading comments arguing what this breakcore track reminds people of. Breakcore, the genre defined solely by using the same drums in every track.

Thinking about buying a spare unused Suica card just in case something were to happen to mine after they get rid of Suica's penguin.

Writing is so wild. My revision process on this story has been "read it and stare at it and occasionally think about it but DO NOT WRITE IT for a month" and just now my brain was like "Here's how to fix it. Now go listen to Dopesmoker in its entirety and write it." Done.

The PSP is such a beautiful device, but I mostly don't want to play PSP games lol. At least the DS has a killer library.

I really like a lot of stoner rock / stoner metal so this is coming from a place of love, but it is funny the conceit for a lot of these bands is "white guys who like to smoke a lot of weed."

Frankly, the idea that there is a British English and an American English is so fucking stupid. No, I'm not going to start writing "colour," but we all know what it means.

I find walking enjoyable most of the time, but I've realized there's a specific pace (maybe slightly faster than I normally walk? I walk quite fast) I find most pleasurable.

People don't really seem bothered if they're even aware about the general-acceptance of far right lingo in the semi-mainstream. Not good imo.

We exist in a moment where the Overton window is so far over to the right. I just think you can't give these things an inch. Burn any "In this house" signs.

Also surprisingly listenable for a band whose lyrics are entirely screamed in Norwegian.

As I get further away from art school, it becomes equal parts interesting and sad to see who's still trying to make art.

I'm used to athletes being younger than me, but the A's hiring a POBO who's the same age as me is tripping me up.

I don't know why, but curved glass windows are such a sign of wealth to me.

Man, I'm a 31 year old that's been on the internet for many years. I know all about the Nutty Putty Cave Incident.

Drone shows aren't SHIT compared to a fireworks display. Get the fuck out of my face with that.

Impossible to describe just how frutiger aero the soundtrack at the Enoshima Aquarium is. I need a vinyl.

Saw someone say anime wasn't good anymore because it's too woke. Brother, I watched a show today where a scientist used children he abused as hostages and human shields before getting his shit blown clean off by a fucking laser (from a child soldier) in EPISODE ONE.

Went to ship a package, and the post office (in Tokyo) was playing Radiohead. Somehow changes the vibe to try to mail something to "No Surprises."

If you've posted unironically about "SJWs," I should be able to hit you in the face with a shovel. Really hard.

We've had the ability to watch, say, Counterstrike marathons, Street Fighter tournaments, or chess matches between computers since the 90s. Spectacles which, by their very definition, would be at a "higher standard" than human play. And nobody wants it. It's entirely meaningless. It has no appeal.

If I were Japanese I'd be pissed if I had the 々 in my name. Damn, I can't even get two full kanji?

Has there been some kind of large publicized battery bank fire incident I've missed? I feel like I see tons of ads warning against the risk of fire now.

I've long felt that making money is some kind of trick or secret I don't get. I've got skills and experience I think are valuable, I know what I'm good and and what I like to do, but I've never found out how to put that together in a way like others have.

Who gives a fuck

Maybe especially because I don't make pancakes very often, when I do I get bored, so the last couple end up being MEGAPANCAKES

One thing I'm trying to eliminate is telling little pointless lies. Why do I feel the urge to say I got 20 points instead of 19, etc.?

A look at 5 of the anime I'm most looking forward to in Autumn 2026

mnchrm.co5 Must-Watch Anime for Autumn 2026The trees are starting to change color, and there's a crisp wind blowing in. You know what that means: a new anime season is about to start! I thought I'd write up another guide to some of the series I'm most looking forward to coming up, so you can get your own watchlists in order. Autumn 2026 is set to be a quieter season, with a few hotly-anticipated sequels leading the charge. While it might be a good time to get caught up on your backlog, here's a few of the new series I'm excited to watch. Looking for a primer on what seasonal anime is to begin with, or how to get started? I wrote up a guide just for you; check out my Complete Beginner's Guide to Seasonal Anime. Check it out! * * * ## Kusuriya no Hitorigoto 3rd Season * Studios: OLM * Genre: Drama, Historical Fiction * Why I'm Watching: Political intrigue, historical drama, and one of the best protagonists in anime. Set in a fictionalized version of Tang-dynasty China, _Kusuriya no Hitorigoto_ follows Maomao, a young apothecary who's kidnapped and sent to work in the imperial court. While she wants to keep a low profile, and eventually return to her quiet life, she finds herself caught up in medical and political scheming, assassination attempts, and growing unease among the court. _Kusuriya no Hitorigoto_ is simply one of the best series currently running. If you've missed seasons one and two so far, I wouldn't recommend just jumping in, but luckily in a slow season like this there's plenty of time to catch up! You owe it to yourself to see Maomao's deductive reasoning and the political machinations underpinning a compelling drama. Highly recommend! ## Ao no Hako Season 2 * Studios: Electric Circus * Genre: Romance, Sports * Why I'm Watching: Strong characters, slow-burn romance, and compelling determination. Taiki, a member of the boys badminton team develops a crush on Chinatsu, the ace of the girl's basketball team, who's one year his senior. But asking her out seems hard enough as it is, especially once she moves in with Taiki and his family as her own family is going abroad. I love _Ao no Hako_ ; I fell for the series as hard as Taiki falls for Chinatsu. The characters are written _so well_ , which really holds everything together. Taiki is a classic earnest striver, and Chinatsu always works hard and tries to be true to herself. The setup sounds like something from one of those jokey series' that has a full paragraph for a title, but this is such a genuine, warm series. I'm not usually a big manga reader, but after season one, I couldn't wait, and binged the whole thing. It's worth it. * * * _If you enjoyed this issue, consider joining my_ membership_program, The Order of the Black Lotus. For the price of a cup of coffee in Tokyo ($3/month or $30/year), you not only support my writing and photography, but I’ll send you a**handwritten, one-of-one postcard from me in Tokyo** —a tangible piece of my journey, just for you. Another sequel, but another one I'd argue is worth your time. Ars is a reincarnated noble in a small domain. His father is a skilled military man, but Ars doesn't have much prowess of his own. Thankfully, he has the ability to assess anyone, allowing him to find the most capable people to surround himself with. Before long, his little domain becomes much more central than anticipated... I'm a sucker for these sorts of kingdom-building series. I think of them as a subgenre to what I call "competence porn," narratives that focus on the skill of the protagonist. Ars might not have many skills of his own, but he becomes more and more capable as he learns from and leans on those around him. I find Ars somewhat endearing, but the stars are his supporters, like his wife, Licia. As the continent becomes more embroiled in war, I'm looking forward to seeing what's on the horizon. ## FX Senshi Kurumi-chan * Studios: Passione * Genre: Seinen * Why I'm Watching: Hilarious premise Anime is such a wild world. In what other medium are you going to find stories of magical photography clubs and giant fighting robots, alongside slow dramas? Or how about a show about a girl who gets into forex trading? Kurumi-chan is trying to recoup the 20 million yen debt her mother accrued in risky trading by making some risky trades of her own. The series seems to know how deranged the premise is, and with the rise of Wall Street Bets and widespread gambling in America, simple forex degeneracy seems almost quaint. I love a good oddball series, and who could say no to this premise? ## Marronnier Oukoku no Shichinin no Kishi * Studios: J.C. Staff * Genre: Historical fiction, comedy, josei * Why I'm Watching: Lighthearted adventuring The Kingdom of Marronnier sits in the center of a continent of seven other countries. Led by the general Baribara, she sends her peculiar seven sons to the seven neighboring countries as ambassadors. I'm not at all familiar with the manga this is adapting, but it just seems like a good adventure romp. Seven eccentric knights, seven countries, the only aim adventure; count me in. I'm a big fan of J.C. Staff, and while josei series' are made for women, they've rarely let me down. Adventure awaits! Happy watching! * * * ## Subscribe to Refrakt A bi-weekly newsletter on curiosity, creativity, and (hopefully!) insight, through the lens of photography, writing, study, art and beauty, and my life. [Texting my Type A friend] This is gonna be my month for real. Watch this space [Texting $200 Herman Miller Aeron marketplace listing] would yoy do $70

Every top post on /r/analog is just a mediocre photo of a half or fully naked girl, and then the comments are complete nuked by the mods since you're not allowed to say people only like this for the girl.

I should say I'm very pro- nude photography, hot girls, horniness, etc.

You hear a lot less about bazookas these days. My gaming experience as a child told me this would be a much bigger part of my life by now.

One of my biggest pet peeves with songwriting is clinging too tightly to rhyme. It's nice when lines rhyme, but you can tell when a songwriter is too obsessed with it and it leads to some really clunky lyrics.
