Funny, I thought April was six months ago. Of all the Genesis games to port to Neo-Geo, SWORD OF SODAN? Okay, maybe Blades of Vengeance (@techdweeb.bsky.social has my back on this one, I'm sure), but Sword of Sodan? The game people called Sword of So-damn-bad in the 1990s?

By the way, does anyone know of a Sega Genesis emulator that lets you peek behind the curtain and see what's going on with the tile set, the sprite set, etc.?

Hell. YES. The little bastard's on Sega Genesis now. Byron has broken the 16-bit barrier! (But not without some issues. It's a good start.)

One thing Ima Genesis will do is that if you use colors outside the Genesis color palette, it won't recognize them, and colors will get merged, to the user's disappointment and annoyance. It has a better recognition of color differences than TMScolor, but not nearly enough.

Unfortunately, it's so old that it won't work without putting it in Windows XP compatibility mode. These tools for retro game consoles are irksome because they're either creakingly old, or made with AI. Those are your options for utilities... Mumm-Ra the barely living, or Mr. Roboto.

Finally! Ima Genesis got me a lot farther than any of the other tools I used for SecondBASIC. Unfortunately, it's not designed for SecondBASIC; it's made for its predecessor BasiGaxorz. (I don't care to stylize it properly; it has a really obnoxious name, that's all you need to know.)

How in the hell do you convert PNG files to BINX/BINY files for Sega Genesis games? I'm using SecondBASIC, and SecondBASIC isn't really doing a fantastic job of explaining this.

One thing that's annoying is like the ColecoVision and Master System before it, the Genesis uses y first, then x second when positioning objects. Dudes, it's x/y!

I wrote my first Sega Genesis program with SecondBASIC. It says "Hello nurse!" in the middle of the screen. Oh, the excitement!

Clanky the stanky refrigerator has at long last been cleaned. All the old ice packs are history, the mold's been cleaned up, the eggs on the bottom have been disposed of. (Yuck. No wonder it smelled like Forensic Files in here.)

It had to be configured IN Kodi. Why, I'll never know. Just take the same settings I was using in the Recalbox interface!

Got Recalbox installed. KODI doesn't work with the joystick anymore. I can't even move up and down... what the hell? Do I HAVE to use a keyboard and mouse for this now? Why...?

Parish is right... Bumpy Ride is the worst song on Fly From Here. There's just something annoyingly bouncy and whimsical about it that does not at all fit with the theme expressed in the other songs.

I tried using an SSD hard drive in an enclosure, but for whatever reason it decided it was read only, so that avenue was closed to me.

Ultimate solution: getting a really big card to copy everything that was on the Recalbox, then installing Recalbox with yet another card. At least I'll be prepared.

Maybe I'll dig out a router. Would that do it? I dunno. I have one from when I was scumming puzzle pieces for the 3DS. I would have installed a wi-fi card in this system, an all-in-one, but it was quite the anus about it, refusing to let me clip those tiny clips onto the card's tiny nipples.

No punishment is too severe for the man who made wi-fi card nipples. Even a ribbon cable would have been better than this! They're fragile but at least you KNOW they're in when they're in, and they don't fall out if you so much as brush against them.

It's just intensely irritating how glib people can get about this. "Oh, you'll need to re-install. It's okay! Just takes hours and hours to get all your ROMs back!" Or! Or! You know, just give me a way to update the installation without going nuclear on the old one. Just a thought!

What's inevitably going to happen is that I'll lose my patience, put the update on a USB drive anyway, and lose all my curated content. It shouldn't HAVE to be that way, yet here we are.

Adding to the frustration is that none of my dongles and dingles and dingleberries will get me online in the first place! I've got wi-fi dongles. They've all been worthless on this machine, which is about as social as I am. Maybe computers suck as much as people, but you don't get a choice on this.

I'm on Recalbox 10, but not the latest version on one of my systems, because it's, erm, internet-challenged. Is there even a ghost of a chance that I could download an update, put it on a USB drive, and install it that way, without losing the files that are already on the system?

Because when I updated TO 10, the guy who leads the Recalbox project told me, "Oh, you'll have to completely reinstall, but it'll be totally worth it!" You sure about that, chief? That's hours (and hours) of installing ROMs that were already there, but got wiped out for the update. :/

Calling this inconvenient would be the king of understatements. Some of these files are GIGABYTES in size! That is not a small number!

Just... add my phone number so I can get into my account. The one you FORCE me to use, rather than Health-E-Arizona, which of course I can readily access. What the hell, man? What. The. Fucking. HELL?!

I called. They rerouted me to a deaf assistance line, where one of the employees called me "ma'am." I went straight to the damn DES and they gave me phony promises that weren't kept. This is how Going Down started, isn't it?

"Oh yes, we will take care of your issues logging into Family Benefits, of course." (condescendingly pats head) (goes back home to test it) "Well, they sent an email, at least. Annnnd still can't get in. Surprise, surprise."

Here's how the Gorfian flagship could (and should) have looked on ColecoVision. I imagine the glowing core would be a sprite, but all the rest of this should be Coleco-legal. It just looked awful in the official game; just awful.

People will ignore this advice, as usual, but in the end AI will fail them, and they'll have nothing left. Meanwhile, those artists, writers, coders, and creators who kept pursuing their passions will still have those talents.

There was a story about Nestle giving African women "free" formula for their babies, only to raise the price immediately after those women lost the ability to produce milk themselves. That's what Epic is trying to do with their AI. It's going to dry you out creatively, and make you dependent.

People who don't create, will lose their *ability* to create, making AI their only choice for personal expression. Do not fall into this trap! Keep the talents you've got, and keep working to sharpen those skills. That's your birthright. Don't trade it for a bowl of lentils.

Ramaswami is easy to hate. Redneck fools hate him for the color of his skin. Intelligent people hate him for the content of his character.

Oh, Ramaswami ding-dong, you will never, ever be accepted by the rich white bastards you try to emulate. Never. Never. Never. NEVER. You've seen it in the rallies. You might think you're a genius, but to the unwashed redneck masses, you're just another minority, to be trampled later.

I really, really, REALLY hate situations like this. Don't trap people in a funnel of bureaucracy, making them perform impossible tasks just to keep them out of your hair. You won't get me out of your hair! I'll find the first human associated with the problem and make it THEIR problem.
