The Switch 2 exploits were inevitable. Specific games were always gonna be a backdoor. Let's just hope though, that we aren't seeing a repeat of the mistakes made during the Switch 1 generation. Monetizing emu builds, especially for unreleased games, are asking for Nintendo's lawyers.

Game-Key Cards give consumers additional rights such as first sale doctrine and property inheritance over bog-standard digital games. Apparently that’s too much for some publishers.

Code in a box on Switch 2 is so embarrassing, what you mean you're cheaping out on the empty cartridge

This past Thursday, I decided to start another replay of The Legend of #Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. This was my very first 3DS game. I'm amazed at how well designed this remaster is, while also still being very easily exploited with pre-existing glitches from the original and GC Master Quest.

I will admit, I was one of those people who believed this was going to fail. In reality, I had a lot of uncertainty for whether I would be able to buy it. I had a Wii U that I barely used, so it didn't look good on me to already be going after the next console. I kept wanting to justify the Wii U.

On this day 10 years ago, the Nintendo Switch was first revealed (October 20th, 2016).

CBR recently published a super clickbait article claiming that "Nintendo Switch App" will be removed on March 2027. No, this is NOT the Nintendo Switch App™, formerly known as the Nintendo Switch Online™ app. This is some 3rd party streaming app called NicoNico. The audacity of CBR pisses me off.

I just had to block someone on Bsky who denies that Israel is committing genocide. They are anti-Trump, but they are ironically also anti-Palestine. Reminds me of that other person that I recently blocked who was pro-LGBTQ+, but a neoliberal capitalist. Being privileged and biased gets you nowhere

EG fell for it too. :( The Capcom presentation contains a slide with "AI世代のゲームエンジンへ" - the article omits the "へ", for one, but the issue is that while 世代 means 'generation', it's in the 'console generation' sense, not like GenAI. Without へ, translation software gets it totally wrong.

My girlfriend was talking about how the #ESRB game ratings arguably have the best designs, compared to the likes of CERO, PEGI, and other video game age rating systems. I took a look at it further, and not only do they have a nice, slightly fun design, but they also have the best usage of space.

What's really egregious is USK, Germany's age rating system. Germans are very lucky not to require BOTH PEGI and USK for the box art, but that's not saying much. USK's age ratings are HUGE. They take up way too much real estate to the point where a game's logo can be offset, or the art gets changed

I think one of the most infamous examples is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. We already know this is a super condensed version of a crazy wide mural featuring every fighter. Now, let's take it a step further. Let's remove the character who committed tax fraud from the box art entirely.

One of my pet peeves is inconsistent game box spines, and if you are a collector of international versions of games, it REALLY sucks. CERO, Japan's age rating system, has a requirement to put the rating on the SPINE, offsetting everything upwards. On #Nintendo Switch, this moves the publisher logo

Currently on a bit of a break from playing through Xenoblade games. I decided to play a #Rockstar game I've been holding off for over a decade now. #RedDeadRedemption #NintendoSwitch 2 Edition. Probably the last good thing Rockstar ever did before the mess that is #GrandTheftAuto VI.

I got a used Switch 1 copy at EB Games for just $24.99 CAD after they had announced the free upgrade. A free upgrade path... Seriously, we're talking about a publisher that's usually GREEDY. And the upgrades fully take advantage of the Switch 2 hardware. They really ain't kidding with this one.

I didn't ask for this to be escalated, so I'll put a stop to it. I blocked them and I'm not putting up with their bs any longer. This all started with a debate about physical media. I criticized them by saying their line of thinking was similar to ideas that leads to tech enshittification.

But their behaviour makes me question their legitimacy. Thinking that everyone in the world has reliable access to modern technology. Thinking that better digital rights is the only path forward, instead of leaving physical media as an option for consumers. Thinking that my age matters.

To me, that sounds a lot like conservative, corporate, right wing smoke and mirrors. But I can't prove their motive and I don't feel the need to prove that, because blocking on Bsky is actually blocking. I don't want to be a part of it any longer.

They claimed I was "larping as an adult" and I should leave Bsky. I don't specify my age that often, and I don't need to. I've already gave indicators that I am not a minor. The rest isn't something I want to openly advertise, because I don't need to.

I looked at their profile and their interactions. They're as real as they can be. They're an adult, they're a very progressive thinker when it comes to human rights (trans rights are human rights), and they have lived through hell for most of their life.

I'm guessing they never moved on from that, because I encountered them in another post responding to my comment. I pointed out that I recognized them, and they proceeded to start debating again, twisting the post topic about age to something about my age, and being worried that I was underaged.

Future Connected was not quite the follow-up to #Xenoblade that I was hoping for. It feels kinda like a filler episode that sets up a plot point more important than what is presented. The gameplay changes weren't drastic either. Riki's children were just carbon copies of Reyn and Sharla.

I started #Xenoblade Future Connected recently. My time with Xenoblade 1 already feels so long ago, even though I had just beaten that story at the end of July. Maybe it's because this is the first true (and canonical) glimpse at what happens after Xenoblade 1 and 2. After... such crazy events.

And to think that this was the thing that came out after Xenoblade 2 and Torna makes it seem pretty underwhelming. I actually balled my eyes out with those games. Future Connected was just... something extra. It was literally just another chapter, focused on Melia again.

Bsky is plagued with bots... but unlike other platforms, it's bots trying to promote good causes. That's still inexcusable. What is there to gain by annoying people with spam?

I've been in the process of de-Googling my #Android phone as much as possible without rooting. The amount of depth and control that #Google Play Services goes to is insane. Epic Games was right to challenge Google. If it's not a monopoly in storefronts, it's a monopoly in digital rights management.

This is all manufactured inconvenience. Android is nowhere near as open of a platform as #Linux. Android is designed to give the illusion of choice to the consumer under the restrictive lens of Google. The alternatives are made to feel less convenient and less enticing to keep users within Google.

The reason I've been wanting to get away from Google is rather simple. They are bowing down to the demands of an orange tyrant, and a name change on the map is just one of many dumb things they have done. They do not respresent the world's interests, nor do they define the future for the world.

Another issue is app maintenance. Not every 3rd party storefront supports the apps you have, and not every 3rd party storefront has good alternatives. There's all this talk about F-Droid, but it's full of junk alternatives. Updating apps is a pain in the ass to do manually.

And this is just talking about phones. If you want to de-Google your other smart devices, like your car with Android Auto or your TV with Chromecast, good luck. There aren't many developers willing to work on those platforms, so you're kinda stuck with Google. If the software is too old, too bad!

De-Googling Android devices also becomes a challenge when some alternatives simply DO NOT EXIST. If there was, search engines have certainly made them impossible to find. In some cases, Google themselves allegedly forced developers NOT to support RCS in their apps, citing "policy" as justification.

Best example is finding a 3rd-party messaging app on Android that supports RCS. RCS is a newer protocol for text messaging that is NOT owned by Google, but by a non-profit based in the UK. It is ALSO the method for cross-platform communication with iMessage. However, only Google Messages supports it

Not saying Epic Games is any better, but just bringing the issue to light was already a big step forwards to exposing how bad Android has become over the year. I've also discovered that #Twitter was just as bad as Facebook when it comes to installation. Now I need to figure out how to get rid of it

Twitter is not a pre-installed app like Facebook, BUT installing Twitter from the Google Play Store also installs some kind of hidden APK(?) file that does not get removed when uninstalling Twitter. You have to use the Android Debug Bridge to fully remove Twitter from Android devices.

I'm genuine impressed by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. They fought off scalpers successfully on multiple occasions, when most other companies might turn a blind eye. Corporations don't care about their consumers. But one that cares about consumer loyalty over short-term profits is still better.

I watched #Avengers Endgame Encore last night with a friend, and let's just say I couldn't help it. I got pretty hyper for a movie I already watched like 5 times before. Some people in the audience, including myself, cheered during the Mjølnir scene and the portals scene. What a great experience.

3 out of 6 main Xenoblade games completed. Xenoblade 2 and Torna have broken me. Torna is how a proper prequel should be made. It doesn't hold hesitate to take risks where it needs to, but it also properly fills in the gaps.

The whole entire game pretty much encapsulates the definition of "romanticism" and reinterprets what was framed to be a tragedy to be only a fraction of the story. Tragedy can also happen in an instant, and when people least expect it.

As the saying goes, "vote with your wallets." If you have to make the sacrifice of missing out on your favourite game, it might do you some good. You'll actually find an excuse to try out different games.

#Xenoblade Torna feels like a super condensed Xenoblade 2. Character progression feels unusually fast and exploration is much shorter. But because of that, it makes the side content so much more rewarding. It doesn't feel like I have to commit 100 hours before fighting a high level enemy.

Now of course, part of it comes from having a character roster that isn't reliant on gacha mechanics. More importantly though, they streamlined the characters to work well with each other. It feels deliberately set up so you don't have to waste time picking and choosing the correct Drivers/Blades.

They also streamlined the combat system so you aren't leaving an entire move unused. Every Art is useful in some way, rather than being situational to specific enemies. I also love the refined swapping mechanic. Moving the fourth Art to the mechanic actually made it so much less punishable to swap.

I thought that by leaving Twitter and Threads, I would escape the ads and sellouts. On the Nintendo instance, I've been on a blocking spree because there are sooooo many advertisers and journalists trying to promote their own work. I've also seen a lot of fake news outlets committing PLAGIARISM.
