I’m getting into #mapmaking again. I’m focusing on my Mediterranean analog since I’ve not given it much thought in the current more 1920s-50s timeline I’ve been focusing on. I’ll chip away at this slowly. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg

While flying islands were generally believed to be a myth for the past thousand years, several groups have thrived in the skies. Among them are the high orcs, who seek to maintain order within the White Sea. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

Harpies are cursed creatures which live in the wetlands of northern and western Halkiurra. They imitate the voices of humans and lure their victims to the water’s edge, where the harpy drowns them with powerful legs. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

Aethvozaqar, the Demon of Stew, has tended the same stew above an eternal flame outside Jelod for over 1,200 years. While he hasn’t raised the price, he has been convinced to accept new currencies as governments rise and fall. The stew remains. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

While there is a great deal of spiritual classification in Aulterr, mysteries still exist. One example is the non-hostile “Bone Serpent,” which appears before fishermen and is generally just regarded as an ill-omen rather than demon or undead. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

Many trading vessels and yachts are enchanted with magic which repels water, decreasing friction and increasing speed. As such, at full sail, the fastest ships will travel vast stretches of ocean while barely skimming the tallest of waves. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

Been a long and busy week, so I'm still chipping away at something a little more involved. But here's something from a paint and sip last weekend with another li'l Croak cameo.

New little guy, only yea tall. Hopscotch is a Kiryar, a Demon of Journeys, and he makes sure people are on the right path. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

Took another run at this, and I think this is good for a first attempt at a painted landscape! It is unknown how the Court of Last Resort determines the cases it hears, but Malus Maleficarum moves with the Court’s will, leading to odd scenes, as below. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

Through magical dealings, contracts are formed between mortals, demons, and gods. But who enforces these contracts? Enter Malus Maleficarum, the Hammer of Witches, the Court of Last Resort! #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

The final justice, Judge Story, is a Rochthnar, a Demon of Knowledge. He is only the centipede living in the apple within the book’s mouth. The book itself contains all laws ever written. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

Moe Neus@moeneus.bsky.social

Judge Skeleton “Skelly” Wright is an Althar, a Demon of Death, representing one of the divine factions which enforces the will of the Court. Despite his intimidating appearance, he is the most outwardly friendly of the justices. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

The Chief Judge of the Court of Last Resort is Learned Hand, a ghostly, disembodied, human-sized hand. He leads a three judge panel along with Judges Story and Skelly Wright. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

This is also just me playing around in Procreate for the first time and having access to things like "shading" and "values," so I'm gonna take a minute to figure everything out.

After a year and a half of finding every way to coerce my note taking tablet into letting me draw, then editing it with a mouse and keyboard in GIMP, I now have an iPad with pencil. Does anyone have any programs they recommend for art? I'm fine to pay a little bit, I just dislike subscriptions.

I had a dream about the hoverrat, and now it's on the moon. Quick word on moon life: the moon was largely barren until an inland sea on the surface of Aulterr simply brought itself to the moon several epochs ago. How does the hoverrat play into this? 🤷 #worldbuilding #art

Cannibalism is generally frowned upon. Other than that, even the gods are fair game. Those who make a habit of consuming magical ingredients—be they from plants, animals, or gods—may eventually find themselves bereft of their humanity, in one form or another.

Good morning, #SeptemberWorldbuilders! What are the rules/laws/morals regarding food in your fictional world? Anything that must be eaten at a certain time? Certain ways animals are slaughtered? Anything forbidden?

Back from a wedding! This is the aforementioned powerful undead, who pitched this idea of sending the party to the moon after doing a kick flip on a flying sword. I hadn't appreciated how powerful this persuasion tactic was. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

I will also add that one of the overarching goals of the (cowboy-themed) DnD campaign I've been running since 2022-ish is to somehow get to the moon and kill this guy for a different powerful undead (he did not explain, nor did they ask follow up questions)

Missing alt text, as I was too lazy to translate my shoddy script handwriting last night.

Lunar Angels soar over the moon's landscape, watching above and below. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

A portrait of Əlmɶrlnk͡xɢovear, the Demon of Headaches. It's been a minute since I've done more than just sketched something, and I felt like drawing something spooky. Very inspired by A. Shipwright's work. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

So I did start drawing as an adult again about a year and a half ago, and I just want to toot my own horn for a second and say I like the way I draw hair/fur a lot more now than ~March of 2025. Might take another stab at this grove god, though, because I'm realizing I still do like it.

One-wheeled hybrid brooms have become more popular in recent years. They have far superior hauling capabilities while removing strain from the levitation enchantment and thus the mage. While the broom still functions without gasoline, it does so poorly. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky

Moe Neus@moeneus.bsky.social

Potros of the Low Coven peddles her brooms. Flying brooms typically have one of two enchantments: one to move freely through the air or one to repel the ground. The latter is generally preferred, being both faster and more stable, if lower to the ground. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

The desire to make a motorcycle broom probably came from 5 year old me thinking the weird hover motorcycle from Pokemon Colosseum was the most badass thing imaginable.

An immensely dumb comic that came to me while tide pooling, starring Jonboy, my 6-int undead barbarian. Explanation of the the really horrible wordplay in the Alt text, as I don't expect it to translate well, even into english. #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #comics

Earlier Jonboy design over the Squidward meme. This has led to him using nameless aristocrats as improvised weapons in several combat encounters.

The moon lich has some of the most convoluted but impactful lore in the setting. He (A) attempted to make a song his phylactery, and (B) chose the wrong song. Thus, he is on the moon, and most of a continent was turned into undead. #worldbuilding #dnd #oc #ocsky #art

Sketches of some of the lunar ecology while I have very little time and I try to figure out the direction I want to take some of it. #worldbuilding #specevo

Tended by the moon lich, fields of filter-feeding "flowers" sift through dust and sea spray on the lunar surface. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

Taken to the most extreme, some mages have entire PR teams to ensure you don't just know what spell they'll cast, but you already have an image of who's casting it. This makes a mage predictable, but to some the cost is worth it. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

Moe Neus@moeneus.bsky.social

While the "model mage" may use fashion defensively, if someone knows exactly what your spell is going to do before you cast it, it will hit harder. As such, a fire mage may wear bright reds, dye their hair, or show off burn scars. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

Moe Neus@moeneus.bsky.social

Where magic is based in part on your understanding of your opponent, how does this affect fashion? Fashion is defensive: the average mage wants you to know as little about who they are and what they're thinking as possible. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

"The Page of Heaven" is a complicated plant. Its spores latch onto carrion in the lunar desert, where it grows. As its nutrients run out, it releases a kite-like structure to attract lightning. The resulting fulgurite anchors the plant to the loose soil. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

Back in 2020, I decided that this would be the last setting I would make to prevent myself from getting distracted. That means it's a complete kitchen sink. I still want it to be tonally consistent, though, so I recently decided that if anything is "too weird," it now goes on the moon.

Quick and dirty comic: A demon of distance, a loqar, is one of the most troublesome creatures to fight. As it controls the concept of distance, it can simply increase the distance between your head and your body. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky

Thach, God of Beasts, cast down from the Pantheon of the Wilds, still stalks the remote corners of Aulterr. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

Guy Bones, a recurring skeleton NPC in dungeons. Caught in a Faustian bargain, he will adventure forever, often lending brief aid to explorers. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art

Additional tidbit with a quick sketch: When Guy Bones' weapons breaks, as they often do, he uses his head like a flail, hence the rope spiked through both his helmet and skull. #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky

Redesign of "Qui Furuntur Aeris," "Those Who Steal Copper," to have a bit more going on. Also known as "the Aeramen," goblins are descended from Darish sailors "saved" during a terrible storm by the God of the Severin Sea. #worlbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art #goblins

Moe Neus@moeneus.bsky.social

Two quick sketches of my aquatic, shark-headed goblins, both meant to be cute. I may have succeeded with one. #dnd #worldbuilding #goblins

The God of the Mare Nostrum, Darvail, drifts through that sea's deep, calm waters, hunting squid and small whales. Its cast off scales can be used to make a delicate broth. #worldbuilding #dnd #ttrpg #oc #ocsky #art
