I deleted an angry post to say this instead: we all know the stereotype that people of a certain age not reading anything you (as a business) post or send them and instead message you directly to ask for wildly available information is true. I experience it frequently. Can someone explain *why*?

That thing where you’ve been lucky enough never to leave a job on bad terms and now folks from your old jobs are helping with your new job… God that’s nice. That’s so nice.

In the continuation of this theme, my other former boss who’s opening a restaurant in Milwaukee texted today just to say hi and he missed me and to see if my partner and I wanted to check out the space in progress next week 🥹

Is there a particular reason that the only motherfuckers who seem to show any interest in ordering food from me are exclusively people who cannot (by which I mean are too entitled to) read the clearly fucking posted information that already contains the answers to 100% of their questions?

I’ve reached the point where I’m doing a thing I said I’d never do, which is singing for engagement - might as well spread it far and wide just for fun. Singing along to “The Meaning of the Ritual” by Villagers while making cinnamon rolls.

This situation requires a lot of hope and optimism, which is problematic because I haven’t had the former in like six years and the latter I am morally opposed to.

Additionally just realized that I don’t know how to make anything cooler than what I made this week, which no one has bought nor will they, so that bodes well.

One cannot make people give a fuck about one One cannot make people order baked goods you have slaved over It is literally not going to work How long do I keep pretending it will

I’ve been wanting to do a s’mores thing forever because I love the damn things, but I was scared it wouldn’t work. It worked. Oat/graham crust, homemade marshmallow, chocolate ganache, oat graham crumble. I am fond of her. 🥹 🍽️

Had lunch with my uncle today, who I adore. He has MS and it’s gotten pretty debilitating, but it can’t touch his sense of humor. “I practiced meditation and tai chi forever, so I’m pretty good at having MS.” Love you so much, Phil.

Additionally, had tonkatsu ramen and it was absolutely divine but for some reason cannot stop thinking about how good the *green onions* in particular were? 🤔 😂

In the “absolutely heartwarming moments” category, my dear sweet bud from high school/college, with whom I talk not nearly enough, reached out today…for an old chili recipe I made that he enjoyed 😭

What I mean by that is - chef and his wife came up with an idea: a “dinner and dessert” giveaway. Follow both the restaurant’s and my insta accounts, tag two friends in the comments, and you get a chance to win a $50 gift card to both them and me.

My mother frequently complained that she would wake up “puffy” and I genuinely had no idea what the hell she was talking about; she always looked like her normal self to me. I gotcha now, ma. This is bullshit. 😂

The wild look and sleepy eyes of an old man who no longer waits for his mother to wake him up at 7; he will bring himself downstairs for his breakfast at promptly 6:30, thank you very much.

Baking challah, sitting outside with a cigarette and coffee. Still makes me feel like my dad is going to come outside and “yell” at me by which I mean DO NOT LET YOUR MOTHER CATCH YOU.

Just bought cigarettes for the first time in probably 15 years, which feels extremely appropriate for this season of my life.

I take advice really poorly, and I’ve always wondered why, and I think it’s partially because I worry so much that I’m subconsciously insulted that they (wrongly) think I haven’t thought to worry about the thing they’re suggesting. Like guys I am SO good at worrying I do not need your help.

A new thing I have also learned is that flyers don’t fucking work. Don’t waste your money.

So far my understanding of being a small business owner is that it mostly involves waking up vaguely optimistic and going to bed very sad.

Maybe because I woke up sad today I will go to bed vaguely optimistic? That’s how it works, yes?

My fav moment of yesterday - I was hanging a flyer in a bar and I obvs do not spend any time in bars anymore, but some drunk old guy behind me said “hey, hey, hey” semi aggressively and I’m glad my immediate reaction was still to say “hey fucking what” without turning around 😅 There was no response.

My friend is opening a huge fucking restaurant in Milwaukee and he texted me last night - it was just a photo of a man taking a peaceful sunset walk through a field with a dog, captioned “this and you hit me in the head with a brick.” I am so glad I’m not opening a restaurant. 😂

When the boomers no longer exist, I hope to fucking Christ phone calls die with them. Believe it or not, you do not need to hear my voice to communicate with me. You do not WANT to hear my voice to communicate with me.
