A double rain drop sort of day today in Aberdeenshire, so here's an oil painting by N.Y. artist Gregory Thielker that catches the mood. He paints images taken through a car windscreen in torrential rain.

Try something different photographically this weekend. You might surprise yourself! Don't think about the obvious. Try photographing the space between things instead. It's one of 15 free prompts I'm giving away. Here's the link: https://theworldofmattparker.com/pages/free-creative-photography-ideas

Another fine Orkney day. Fisherman's huts at Marwick Bay built in 1898 - 1913. The other is of Marwick Bay a bit further along. #orkney

A visit to the amazing Italian Church in Orkney today. Made and decorated by Italian prisoners of war. The 3D painting detail inside is immense. #orkney

One of my earlier Blackbirds. I always try to make them as true to life as I can, enjoying the challenge of pushing for realism. Needle felted in merino wool with handmade beak and feet. #blackbird #wildlifesculpture #britishwildlife ##birdlovers #felted

I must say I'm looking forward to cooler conditions - like this blizzard perhaps.

A visit to Tarlair outside pools this morning at MacDuff in Aberdeenshire. It was closed in 1995 and was pretty derelict when I last visited it in 2018 (3rd pic). Today the pavillion is a tea room with added kitchen but the 3 pools are waiting for funding to be renovated. It was busy in its day.

I've eventually got round to making these artists' books with handmade box after a year of procrastination. They're a set of left and right concertina books entitled 'Wind and Rain at Midnight'. You can read more about them here >>> www.shonagrantsart.com/test-books

Taking photos of the wonderfully named lichen Old Man's Beard today using my folding photography light tent. The lichen is a subject I've been thinking of including in a handmade book for a while. Needless to say there's pressure on to go out for a walk.

First BBQ of the year. Cold and beautiful. The bird song was wonderful.

Day 8 of snow in Aberdeenshire. It can go now.

It's a mucky day out there with rain slowly melting the snow and ice, so here's 'Summer Landscape' (oil on canvas - 1955) by English artist Edward Middleditch RA. A welcome splash of colour.

With the latest storm approaching, here's one of my photos from a series taken of the trees in wind and rain at midnight a few weeks back. I'm in the middle of making a handmade book using them. #photography #storm

Night trees in wind and rain at midnight.

Autumn colours tentatively begin. Actually, this year they started in mid August due to lack of rain. It'll be interesting to see if Autumn colours will be done and dusted by mid October when usually at their best.

My last drawing of #DrawingAugust is of a poor tree split by Storm Arwen in Nov 2021. The fallen trees are a daily reminder of the power of the storm. Hopefully not to be repeated any time soon. #DrawingAugust2025
