The state of the internet is such that any time I see a screen name that looks like a real person's name I automatically assume they're: 1. a bot 2. trying to sell me something 3. both 1 and 2

Me: It would be good to refactor this to not be one big package for improved separation of concerns and to make it easier to reason about. But I suspect that here there be dragons. Client: Make it so Me, scorched, clawed, and slightly bitten: Yeah, that figures.

The worst part about when the new ant colony that has just moved in discover you have water is waiting for the little bastards to take all the ant poison home and die. I now understand why the Home Depots here have infinity ant poison on the shelf.

La Forge: "We want to do experiments on the critical systems of the spaceship/computer keeping us all alive." Me: gee, that sounds like something you should not do in production. Episode: *dramatic music plays, because stuff is very broken now* #TNG was so far ahead of its time #StarTrek

I had forgotten that Star Trek deals regularly with the loss of friends, parents, spouses, etc. A stark contrast to the modern era, where everything must carry 27 warning labels for an offhanded mention.

Been thinking a lot about #freelance work recently. The big platforms all look very "race to the bottom"-ey to me. Are there any effective alternatives to those platforms? Is there a market for back-end dev work in proper back-end languages? #softwaredeveloper

If you're conducting #interviews and you promise a followup by the end of the week, it's imperative that you hold yourself to that. If you fail to do so you're sending a very clear signal to the applicant. 1. We are disorganized 2. We don't value you as a candidate #recruiting #hiring

I spent some time watching #StarTrek TNG yesterday. I had never really directly noticed that there seem to be at least two intermingled storylines going on in each episode. I noticed it because it "felt" different while watching. Am I going crazy or is this something we no longer do in TV?

Just a little reminder to all my GenX (I didn't forget you) and Millennials out there. Right now, we have the opportunity to not become the boomers. Shut the fuck up about the burritos. Learn to coach the youngs instead of shitting on them.

It's super funny that as everything becomes less and less usable because of all the AI that's been shoved into everything I'm seeing job posts demanding experience with clankers. Proompt harder lil bro, that'll fix it for sure. #fuckai

I keep hitting this disconnect where I think : "Man, I'm really not very good at front end and it's so hard." Then I read answers on SO and think: "wow, none of these idiots have any clue what they are doing or why they are doing it." Why is front end like this?!?!?! #software #developer

I had a dream that I hadn't checked my YT analytics in a while, so I opened up the page and had 250k subscribers. I was shocked but also relieved, in the "everything is gonna be OK now, I'm finally doing well" sort of way.

People tend to think that past humans were dumb because they didn't know about germs and had horses and boats instead of cars and planes. But they invented the pocket watch from first principles. Future people are gonna be right about us though. A lot of us are dumb as shit.

The goal of this crowd is to spend the least amount of time possible playing the game, and then complain that the game is short. Getting stuck and exploring to figure out where to go is part of gaming. Learning how games generally work is part of gaming. "Limited time" is a terrible excuse.

I sincerely dislike people who cry about "yellow paint" or other visual markers when reviewing games. Those are in games to help players who aren't terminally online gamers navigate the world. You know, the "casuals" who actually make up the silent majority market for video games. 1/

Idiocracy and Office Space are the strongest argument for the feasibility of time travel. Mike Judge warned us how deeply stupid the corporate world would become. Then he told us how everyone was going to be a drooling idiot. Both things have happened, exactly as foretold.

It's weird to see so many voices I used to respect (not always agree with, but respect) fall to the grift machine. It's enough to make me worried that I'm the asshole in this equation. At the same time I've never been more certain that I'm right as when I reject the slop.
