Comic retailer, game retailer, Magic player, movie and book lover, person who takes everything 5% too seriously. Too weird for the normies. Too normal for the weirdos. Always the wrong guy. Let's fucking go.

My hottest modern opinion is that "scalper" is a slur and anyone with a small amount of brainpower should stop using it when the word "reseller" exists and is totally appropriate.

A radicalizing moment of my HS years was in 92 when a guy in homeroom who had just gotten done bragging about drinking and getting laid during the weekend told me I was going to hell for going bowling with a gay couple.

Sam Adams@samadams.bsky.social

when I think back on the world I grew up, the fact that there are out gay kids in high school blows my mind

The place I first saw Frank Turner announces it is closing weeks after Frank announced he is taking a hiatus from touring. This getting old thing is for the birds. (Also saw things like UHF and Spike and Mike's Animation Festival here back when it was still a theater.)

The last waltz for Dallas' Granada will be April 17, give or take. The last supper at Sundown will come next week. The Granada has long been one of my favorite live-music venues; yours, too, likely. But in the end, I guess, we're all just temporary custodians. www.dallasnews.com/opinion/comm...

There's a computer in my pocket that is approximately eleven zillion times more powerful than the computers that sent men to the moon. And I get pissed when it dings to tell me important things like my doctor appointment is coming up. 😆

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Sorry, can't resist this

Ossoff: "What worries me right now is complacency about this race in Georgia, overconfidence about this race in Georgia. There's no such thing as a landslide victory in the state of Georgia. This remains the crucial battleground state."

It took me a while to realize a certain movie pairing and now I need to get it out of my head. I loved Everything Everywhere all at Once. Watched it repeatedly. It's brilliant. And it is a tale about how familial generational trauma can be confronted and defeated with love and compassion.

The pairing? Evil Dead Burn. Which is also about familial and generational trauma, but takes the approach of "Fuck these people, burn it all and I am walking away from all of this bullshit." Resonates with me because, well, I have both strains within my own history.

I think both movies are well done and nail exactly the vibe they are aiming for at the outset. Burn will never win best picture, but that's ok. Catharsis is an unappreciated art form.

If you enjoy the Street Fighter games, there's a 75% chance you dig the new movie. Non fans? Yeah you can probably safely pass. I enjoyed it, but very much understand why some others would not.

Mail day! And heck yeah I love this movie. I will say the editing feels a little choppy. But the aim is true. Kal El is a unicorn. It is a worthwhile work to explore how anyone else who survived Krypton manages In this telling, Kal El is the ideal. Kara is just trying to manage. Like most of us.

Josie and the Pussycats is criminally underrated. And man has it aged well given what happened to pop culture as time went on.

I had to give up on the show Sportsnight when they opened an episode with the intro to the fictional Sportsnight show with the anchor saying they had highlights from three sporting events that never take place on the same calendar day.

Shhhhhhh...no one let Hetfield know what songs like One and Master of Puppets are about.

I just watched Other Mommy and my first emotional response is simply that I don't know if they meant to do so, but boy did this movie utterly crush the emotional experience of being a Gen X kid and desperately trying to navigate divorced parents and being a latchkey child.

I love modern horror in large part because it knows how to weave in themes while also just being creepy and weird. Other Mommy nails it on all counts. Maybe not a great movie exactly, but wow did I emotionally connect with the lead character (AND HOLY WOW that girl did an incredible job)

I have old school hardware and multiple CRTs because I'm a tech hoarder. But I 100% back this sentiment. The companies who made and own the rights to that stuff have made it way to difficult to access them for no good reason. Go nuts and emulate to your heart's content.

Random shout out to what is now old school tech, my Gen 7 iPad touch thay is over seven years old and has put energy into my ears during my runs for actually thousands of miles. It is now on its fourth protective case.

If you read this please excuse the dang typos that my phone shoved in before I hit send. Also yes, that playlist is one of my favorites. Songs of "Yeah this sucks. Fuck it, get up and get going anyway."

Jermaine is a Good Dude. Lucky to know @lordretail.bsky.social and have had time to hang with him over the years. And honestly, his work ethic and passion makes even this workaholic feel like a piker in comparison.

Considering Edison mostly made his name and money by stealing Tesla's name and inventions...uhhh actually kinda accurate!

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump is doing tricks on that thing: "Elon is our modern day Thomas Edison"

I wonder if he understands that issue five of an ongoing series does not need six covers.

Wacker brings up Midnight as a project that they worked hard on. "I'd rather you sell out of ten books than sit on 30," says Wacker. Next topic: VARIANT COVERS. "I like variants so I'm not here to tek you they are going away but I worry there are too many and there is some confusion."

This gets said constantly, but it worth reiterating: Games Workshop being bigger than fishing is important to shout about because you wouldn't know it from government talking points, which are rarely about anything creative or artistic. Growth won't involve fish or steel, it will involve goblins.

I'm in the middle of a new creative endeavor and... yeah. The exploration and learning is what makes the whole thing worthwhile. Fuck "A.i."

I can't stop thinking how wrong the tech bros have understood creativity and creators. Or even just having hobbies. #erliart

I don't know enough to know how silly or not Sliwa is being here, but I'll say this - Before COVID I hated needles and they freaked me out. Few weeks back I went to the doc and they said "Four vaccinations today?" "Yep. Load me up and let's do this." Also, tetanus shots still suck the most.

What happens if I faint?"- here's fun footage of Curtis Sliwa & Mayor Mamdani getting their flu shots together, including Mamdani offering to hold Sliwa's hand 😆 (Sliwa takes him up on it!) Mail day! My personal favorite horror this year in a year packed with good ones already. Utterly ruthless allegory of spousal abuse and generational family trauma and how they consume everything within reach if left unchecked. Can't wait to watch it again.

This thread. Also, as a store owner, a UB HP set would, at best, permanently bifurcate the player base. There will be stores who ban HP cards. And stores who allow them will see a chunk of their player base just disappear. It is a terrible business choice.

aquaone@aquaone.bsky.social

I've been a Magic player since 1994. please Wizards, PLEASE, do not print Harry Potter cards. this isn't just a UB property some people opt out of. it would be something that gets huge swaths of your customers out of the game PERMANENTLY.

It is important to note here, even if you don't get this survey, many important people at WotC are readily accessible via e-mail and e-mailing them to let them know your thoughts is important, too!
