MTSO’s Brampton Lead, Sylvia Roberts, attended the Brampton Economic Summit 2026, hosted by the Brampton Board of Trade, to hear from business leaders, policymakers and community stakeholders about the future of Brampton’s economy.

Throughout the day, Sylvia connected with local advocates and municipal partners to discuss the links between transit, housing, infrastructure, economic development, and opportunities to strengthen Brampton’s transportation network as public transit helps build a stronger, more connected region.

What could GO service to Kitchener look like with electric trains, infrastructure improvements, and a more ambitious service plan with express trains? Here is a service concept from our recent presentation at the Guelph Transportation Summit, also a part of our upcoming report on GO expansion

Our Co-Executive Director, Haadhi Faizal, presented our advocacy for frequent and electrified Kitchener Line service to Guelph as we continue to advocate for more connected, reliable and frequent regional services across the region. 2/2

There’s an invisible cost beyond the fare box that’s been charged to everyone living in Waterloo Region: it’s the cost of GRT and the Region of Waterloo doing nothing to make transit affordable for students. How can we change this? Read the article here: moretransit.ca/closing-the-...

How much faster would GO trains be if they used electrical multiple unit (EMU) trains? Today, a 33.7km trip from Pickering to Union station makes 6 stops and takes 45 minutes Our proposed local EMU service would make 13 stops, and take only 36 minutes.

Communities across Canada have already demonstrated that affordable youth transit is possible. We’re calling for an affordable youth fare for students aged 13–18, including a discounted monthly or annual pass that makes regular transit use accessible for high school students.

As Noah Dykstra said: β€œWe’re not asking Waterloo Region to be first. We’re asking it to catch upβ€”and create more opportunities for all of us.” Thank you to everyone who joined the conversation and helped make this event possible.

Good news! As part of the Kitchener Line expansion project through Brampton currently under study, Metrolinx is now looking at possible double tracking through downtown Brampton. This is a major bottleneck in the current design, and full double track would allow much more service 1/2

What would affordable public transit mean to you as a high school student in Waterloo Region? Right now, Grand River Transit charges youth over 6 the same adult fare. But systems like Guelph Transit and Hamilton Street Railway offer discounted fares for youth & students. 1/3

We want to hear from you. Join us for a community conversation about transit affordability for high school students in Waterloo Region. πŸ“… August 25, 2026 πŸ•• 6:00–7:00 PM πŸ“MPP Aislinn Clancy’s Constituency Office 305 King St. W, Unit 605, Kitchener 2/3

Over the next few weeks, we'll be introducing you to the members of our leadership team! Haadhi Faizal is a civil engineering student at the University of Waterloo and a passionate advocate for transportation and housing issues across the region. 1/2

Haadhi’s leadership at MTSO continues to drive impactful advocacy efforts aimed at reversing service cuts, improving transit infrastructure, and ensuring that the region’s transit network is designed to meet the evolving needs of its riders. 2/3

The development doesn't seem to be planned to have good integration with future phases, which are closer to the station and should be almost entirely car free and feature public plazas and ample retail. Future pedestrian connections should be prioritized. 5/6

The GO parking lots offer a huge opportunity to turn GO station areas into some of the best parts of our region. The TOC program should take inspiration from other developments in the region which are creating a much more vibrant mixed use and pedestrianized spaces. 6/6

The current proposal does not have enough retail or employment spaces, in addition most of the ground floor of the buildings are set aside for back of house spaces and amenities that could be moved elsewhere. These spaces should prioritize retail and employment. 3/6

The current proposal is too car oriented, with large amounts of space between buildings being taken up by massive roundabouts for loading access. These spaces should be moved away from the station and a more pedestrianized area should be part of this development. 4/6

Commercial and Employment Space: Whitby GO is a transportation hub where all DRT buses in Whitby terminate, it also has frequent GO service. This is an ideal place for employment spaces and retail to support the community, such as grocery stores but also for all of Whitby. 2/6

Over the past few years, Sarnia's public transportation system has received over $11 million in improvements to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of transit services! By investing in smaller cities like Sarnia, transit systems can offer a more reliable trip, just like those in big cities. 🚍

Join MPP Aislinn Clancy for Kitchener-Centre, Noah Dysktra from More Transit Southern Ontario and WRDSB Student Trustee Gloria Anuraj for a community conversation on affordable transit for youth on Tuesday, August 25 from 6-7pm. Come share your experience, ask questions, and join the conversation!
