๐Ÿšจ BREAKING: In a major loss for voters, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 to allow the Trump administration to initiate voter roll purges using a flawed database involving Americans' private data. The ruling will disproportionately impact naturalized citizens who've been wrongly flagged in the system.

IT'S FINALLY AUTUMN THE PRETTY COLOURS ARE STARTING TO SHOW THE AIR IS LIKE A CRISP MINT AND THE SMELL OF HOT CHOCOLATE AND PUMPKIN SPICE IS IN THE AIR

Im often getting the question what my stance on AI is so this post will act as my "someone asks and i link this instead" post Feel free to skip this if you don't care I believe this is way too complicated to boil down to clanker good clanker bad so I'll try my best to split it in to sections

I'm not going in to mass surveillance and automated legal systems in this post but In short my firm belief is that if you support mass surveillance you're an authoritarian scumbag and don't care about basic human rights

Companies are soulless money printers and their only care in the world is to print as much money as possible while using as little money as possible. So I don't think it's absurd that less personell = more work for less people = those people use any tools nessecary to keep their job.

Until we have more powerful green energy sources AI infrastructure should cut its capacity greatly however that won't stop people with your life savings as an hourly wage and friends in parliament from pouring soulless amounts of money in to building more data centers.

I do not belive that you are personally responsible for this if you clean up a few emails or work an Excel sheet with AI. We have a weird kind of digital second industrial revolution thing going on where large fields are being impacted with massive layoffs due to automation work.

You're just stupid if you use it without checking output and optimizing/safety checking generated code manually, it's a tool nothing more nothing less. A tool you are expected to use and learn how to work with efficiently in the IT field wether you like it or not.

Crimes against humanity: The environmental impact is absolutely insane and needs to stop, while I believe this is useful tech in many ways no it's absolutely not worth the cost of our planet.

I think the real potential for problems here is when people start out using AI which steers them away from core development concepts and an inability to fully grasp their generated code. It CAN be a great learning tool but more often than not that simply is not how it's used

In Code: A lot of people are expected to produce 5x more than what they did a few years ago. In the end its what the software does and how well it does it. A few years ago I would not say the same thing but code generated is in large parts usable.

I am and have always been pro open source and free software in every way so i see no issues with the training of models on existing foss code.

Im in no doubt there is AI art that looks indistinguible from a human creation but how the art piece looks and sounds is not the essence of the piece itself rather what is behind it.

That said I see absolutely no issue with it being used as an accessibility tool, for example people with limited mobility could have access to voice control of remotely any digital art software without any specialized setup

Art: No AI slop is not art, it will never replace art no matter how genuine it looks. To me art is more about the creation process and personal touch from the artist.
