Andrea M, mountain hermit

Finally made it to the #rutlandhalloweenparade last night, and my youngest dressed up for it.

A current restoration project: Swedish loom from 1850, about ready for a warp! Pictured next to my drawloom in the barn studio.

My husband's birthday today. Our local bakery makes very nice cakes. #cake

Red things: saffron. This wheel.

#nokings in Rutland, VT today.

Red, White & Misled.

Frost coming later this week = bring in plants from porch. Molly approves. I think this monstera got bigger over the summer, though.

Scenes from a very busy week in Marshfield. I had a wonderful group of students! We got the Romanian loom up and weaving, walked a blanket, and enjoyed a "crankie" show. And it was beautiful. #Weaving 🧶

It’s 186 years to the day since a man called Thomas O’Conor wrote a report about a stone figure on a church in Kiltinane, County Tipperary. This would be unremarkable were it not for what the statue looked like, because this was the first written use of the term Sheela-na-gig

NEW: DHS agents tracked people observing ICE arrests, photographed them, ran their plates, pulled personal information, and added them to a Palantir database, according to newly unsealed court filings. w/ @regret.bsky.social

First-time statewide candidate Amanda Janoo, a virtual unknown when she announced her Democratic campaign in March, is within 10 points of a five-term incumbent often hailed as the most popular governor in the country. Watch Vermont This Week: https://sbrew.link/a9lUcVNs

One of the massive, ancient sugar maples in the front yard has been given a terminal diagnosis by 2 different foresters, so we're going to take it down this fall. This is a huge bummer, but it's likely to destroy the house if it comes down on its own. ❤️🍁🪾💔

🚨 BREAKING: The family of Renee Good and her partner, Rebecca Good, have filed two federal lawsuits over Good’s January killing by ICE agent Jonathan Ross in Minneapolis. 1/

Here is that wheel, with the lamp removed, and restored for spinning. 🧶 #fiberarts

The US mid-term elections are so close, this milk expires *after* they happen. #VOTE

Picture of a pretty one I was using today. I also took in this little flax wheel that had been "lamped."

Here's a little workshop I'm teaching about a month from now that hasn't met minimum enrollment yet. Come join if you're in the neighborhood? sanbornmills.org/workshops/we...

Puppy has decided it's his job to groom the cats (the ones that like him,at least). Cute sleeping follows. I'm home for a few days before my next round of workshops. I miss the menagerie when I'm away. ❤️ 🐕🐕🐕🐈‍⬛🐈🐈🐈🐈🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔

www.newsweek.com/are-truckers... My local grocery store (in a lower middle/working class neighborhood) was very busy this morning. Clerk mentioned this rumor as possible cause. Anyone else hearing things on the ground? #truckerstrike #strike

Was searching for other things, & found this old picture of Cooper, visiting the studio in 2020. ❤️🐑

Day 2 teaching spinning and weaving at the beautiful #sanbornmillsfarm in Loudon, New Hampshire. #folkschool

Another sleepy cat/dog pile ##catanddogarenotfriends

Shadow loves dogs (even though she looks a bit grumpy in this picture). She's 19, puppy is about 18 months old. 🐈‍⬛🐕❤️

And the second new kitty: Mollie! Mollie was one of my fosters when she was a kitten, so I have a baby picture of her. They belonged to a friend's mom who is in memory care now, so I offered to adopt them. ❤️

One of two new kitties on the farm. Her name is Winnie, and the belly is NOT a trap.

I was gifted this beautiful antique hemp brake when I was in PA, and man, is it ever nice to finally have the right tool for this material. ❤️

September garden

Where does linen come from? The farm! Today, there is no commercial infrastructure in the U.S. to produce flax fiber for linen. The PA Flax Project has a goal to bring a scutching mill online in Pennsylvania by 2029 to fill that gap.

“Steinem, a co-founder of Ms. Magazine, was a hugely recognizable presence wherever she went. And she went everywhere: Much of her life as an advocate was spent on the road, speaking at college campuses and community centers, at rallies and marches.” RIP apnews.com/article/glor...

Charging up his batteries. #dog

The antique Balkan loom mid-restoration. I'm a little obsessed with this one! I need to make treadles, re-create a couple other missing pieces, and knit heddles for it. I don't think the pictures convey how small it is. 🧶

Turned down the aisle in the grocery store tonite and spotted the woman I hold responsible for pushing me out of my job a couple years ago. Did a 180 and noped right out of there. Was I being small and immature? Maybe. I give no f*cks.

Pictures from the Mac Steel artist residency site. If you think the idea of poking through the metal history of the 20th century and making art out of what you find sounds fun — you might want to check this out. macscrap.com/new-page-4 #art

My daughter is in the middle of an artist residency at Mac Steel in Rutland, VT. Here's a link to their program, and a vid from several years ago when the residency got started. #artistresidency #art #sculpture macscrap.com/new-page-4 youtu.be/ygkyfB_eJ1Y?...

The flax I'm drying for seed.

Pretty sure this is the fanciest loom I've ever worked on.

www.theguardian.com/fashion/2026... More press for my most famous student!

Big loom rescue day today. I've got my work cut out for me...
